Thread says it all.  Share your good "world" music so we can play it at parties and claim mental superiority.

good stuff! a shame the artist is unkown

i dont have a big collection, but this Aby Ngana Diop album from the 90s came out on Awesome Tapes from Africa a couple years ago and it goes hard. Shes Senegalese I believe.

In fact if you're not aware of Awesome Tapes, they do great things and I hear great DJ sets

Ha, my dad used to fancy Googoosh. While I'm here, Kourosh Yaghmaei and Erkin Koray.

For obvious reasons, I'm going to lead with Marijata and their track No Condition Is Permanent. Who knows if it ever got to Ceddy's ears.

I'll remain on the same continent for the next two tunes.

This second band is pretty much the Congolese version of Buena Vista Social Clubs meets electronic music. It's an incredible record and their live are more raw, less electronic but plenty energetic.

Any love for traditional Japanese music?  I'm always itching for more taiko drum based work.  I have a few Kodo albums, but am desperate for more.  Also love my some Yoshida Brothers.  They use shamisens and add a modern twist to more traditional work.

The Japanese drum music is incredible.

One of my favorite parts of my Japan trip was watching a Taiko group perform for 90 some minutes at the summer festival in Kyoto.  Shit was so mind blowing to me.  I still go through those videos I made pretty often.
