I love Squid! Anyone else?

One of the new post-punk bands coming out of the UK scene, closely associated with black midi and Black Country, New Road.

They're definitely a post-punk band, but have some more math rock and new wave tendencies than the other bands mentioned.

They just released their first LP Bright Green Field which is excellent, quite experimental and shows a lot of promise. Their earlier EP and singles are also very good.

Would recommend if you're into Talking Heads, Tera Melos, Girl Band, black midi, etc. They're signed to Warp, which kind of gives a good indicator of their sound and experimental tendency.

Narrator from their new album is their best song imo, also a big fan of the earlier tracks Houseplants and Broadcaster.

The music is great but the vocals are really, really grating. (Which is funny because it's the same complaint many say about Black Midi, and I love Black Midi)

That being said, there are a few bands (and comedians) I've felt that way about and ended up loving.

ha, i have the exact same thoughts about black midi having great music but grating vocals.

This is the first time I've ever seen people mention the vocals being irritating - what about them is it?

Seriously though, liking these vocals a *lot* more than black midi. I liked my first listen to this, will have to listen back again soon.

Personally I've never been a fan of the pitchy, Talking Heads style vocals where every line sounds like it's surrounded by floating question marks. That being said instrumentally these guys are really cool, so the Black Midi comparison seems apt to me.

Started this one yesterday.  The singer is umm...like a bootleg David Byrne or Travis Morrison (The Dismemberment Plan).  Can feel a little jarring and high on the mix, but the music is great so it balances out.  A great suggestion, thanks.
