The guitarist discussed keeping the two projects separate from one another when Shiel asked whether Frusciante’s solo influences would find their way into the band’s new material.
“That’s what I do on my own. I’ve tried to do some of that kind of thing myself, breakbeats but with a rock music chord progression or whatever. I just think it’s kind of cheesy, and that’s not what I’m trying to do with the Chili Peppers,” he explained.
“In the Chili Peppers, what I found exciting when I started playing with them… is to just see what I can do with a guitar… It was that idea of just how many different worlds you can pull out of a Stratocaster.”
The guitarist also said he’s working more closely with drummer Chad Smith than before, saying they have an “interactive” musical relationship.

The dudes interviews where he talks about RHCP now are such a total 180 from a few years ago, it’s so weird. He just sounds happy and assured and into it and it’s weird and I never expected it after all these years, like it had been so long that he’s been away from their type of music that I just assumed it a foregone conclusion that he was never coming back that to now see it happening I mean just wow, it feels so odd but exciting. We shall see!

Also the music he is releasing now is even further away from the music he released in 2012-2015. Now he calls it "cheesy".
Afterall he did say they asked him to comeback. I think money is definitely one of the reasons

I think when he said "cheesy" he meant the combination of guitar music with electronic beats when the interviewer asked him if his solo work would influence the new RHCP album.

It reminds me of Cedric and Omar trashing ATDI (not saying John did that to RHCP) - it seemed impossible for ATDI to ever get back together. After ATDI reunited, I began to feel the same way about John in that he too could be open to rejoining once enough time had passed.  

 

I'm ecstatic to hear what he brings to the band in 2020/2021.
