Well, in all fairness they have a fan base that will buy pretty much anything they put out, ESPECIALLY with The Mars Volta name attached. I'm mean shit, this place still exists.

They know a new band name would not be as profitable.

I guess the question is what makes this album a Mars Volta album but Antemasque not?

I dunno, I get that Vigil is poppy but it still has a different feel from Antemasque IMO. Antemasque went full on cheese at some points, whereas I feel like Vigil nods to that but still feels distinctly Volta. I think it’s the vocals more than anything, Cedric’s raspy singing started to annoy me after a while but his singing/melodies here are great. Also I think Vigil is the only song so far that sounds somewhat like Antemasque musically, the other two singles don’t at all

There were parts of antemasque that were cheesy? Maybe 50k kilowatts but otherwise I mean it’s a fast nasty punk rock type record with FLEA playing on every song. Lot of good tunes on there and loved the off the cuff nature of it, where it seemed like they weren’t constrained by any labels of their other bands. Kind of a great palette cleanser for the ATDI stuff that then came from 2016-2018. And then here we are.

 

I thought the stadium rock vibe of some of the choruses was kind of cheesy, still dug the album as a whole though

Trying to avoid overplaying the singles. Idk if there’s any Anthony Green fans in here but his new album “Boom. Done” is fucking fantastic

I am trying to avoid overplaying the singles as well! Reminds me of when Amp was about to drop and they dropped viscera eyes as the single. Digesting that track was something special and after like the 10th listen and you heard the track and recognized all the bridges and solos, it was like “this fucker is amazing”.

Just a thought here but holy fuck are some TMV fans just awful. Saw some post in the FB group of a guy commenting on Cedric’s post that he didn’t like two of the three singles. It’s fine if you don’t like them I get it but it’s so fucking weird that people on the internet feel the need to tell people their art is shit. And yes, Cedric is also way too sensitive to those comments but damn lmao

the tech has gotten incredibly good now that AI is in the mix!! it might be a little easier for me to tell because i've used them lots and i know what the artefacts sound like: if you listen closely to the parts where the vocals would be, you'll notice a slight washiness and the low-quality sounds kind of like a low bitrate mp3

 

But all this to say mainly that it's something that you can do yourself to any song you want pretty much so you don't necessarily need to rely on other people's uploads for them, or if it gets taken down it can always be made again!
