I used to think they were good, my favorite album was screaming life/fopp, or down on the upside.

They aren't my favorite grunge band, but they have a lot of songs that I like. Chris Cornell is a wailing maniac. Sometimes I wish he could replicate some of the things he did on Soundgarden with Audioslave. I don't know what happened to the lead guitarist, but he had some great solos.

Soundgarden are/were awesome. I am listening to Down On The Upside right now after reading this thread. Favourite tracks include; Rusty Cage, Jesus Christ Pose, Mailman, Limo Wreck, Pretty Noose, Bootcamp and Blow Up The Outside World.

I never understood why anyone would put Pearl Jam in the same box as Nirvana or Soundgarden (who don't really musically have that much in common either). Personally, I put Pearl Jam in a box labelled "Turgid Rubbish".

In some ways, Audioslave has ruined both of those bands for me.  When I listen to Soundgarden I try to pretend Audioslave doesn't exist.

Wow, what a fickle group. :ol_lol: I'll go out on a limb and say that I enjoy Audioslave. Soundgarden was great, damn shame they broke up, but I take Audioslave for what they are...a decent "rock" band. They aren't breaking any new ground but I like their sound.

Kim Thayil played for Probot, I think. He also showed up at Seattle's WTO riots a while back. He probably cut his hair and nobody will ever recognize him again.

SuperUnkown was awesome but really Down On The Upside just sounds kinda like a chessed out version of SuperUnkown(with expection of the singles).

Interesting. I would have said that Superunknown was by far the cheesiest / most commercial album that they did. Down On The Upside, sounded to me, like a reaction against Superunknown, if anything.

EDIT: I really like Superunknown, but thought that DOTU was a more musically evolved album.

I still say he should have stuck with his solo career. Euphoria Morning was better than anything Audioslave has put out now, or more than likely ever.

"Like Suicide" is probably one of the best album closers I've ever heard.

they're both great. but my favorite soundgarden album is down on the upside. i know a lot of people don't like it as much, but the songwriting is so incredibly strong. "tighter & tighter" is definitely my favorite soundgarden song. i do love all their albums, though.

I think the first half of that album is their best work by far, but I'd say their best album is Superunknown. Badmotorfinger is awesome though.

badmotorfinger > superunknown

i wouldn't say that

badmotorfinger had some of their best songs on it but as a whole it wasn't as good as superunknown

edit: i had no idea i was pretty much saying the same thing as dude above me
