Loving this album so far. Only negative aspect I can say for sure is that it leaves me wanting more. Feels like its over with before I know it. Symmetrical Arizona and The Right Hand is the One I Want are the highlights for me.

I'm still not too sure what to think of the new album.

Like, I guess I'm disappointed because it was completely off of what I was expecting, but at the same time I'm impressed that it caught me totally off guard.

I saw their blog entry about the stream this morning and only got to listen to about 10 minutes then had to rage to the bus almost missing it.

My entire day at school today has been the romance of hardly remembering what Toby's ethereal, sustaining self-harmonies sounded like as I fled my home at 8:10 a.m. into a foggy post-dawn.

Basically I can't wait to get home and listen to the whole album. I have no headphones here at school. Woe.

i never understand too short arguments for albums

expecially when they're 40 minutes

40 minutes is like, the perfect length for an album to be

any longer and i tend to lose interest slightly

Yes, I agree. I don't see albums as too short, I see them as concise. Its much more common for albums to be too long than too short.

Despite what you might think of the album, the album is so great.

Fixed.

The middle eastern-ish vocal part sounds so rushed compared to the video.

exactly what i thought

still a beautiful piece though

I like the cover more than I did before now that I've heard the music.

Despite what you might think of the rest of the album, the guitar part that opens that album is so great.

Yeah, that part is great. I wish they elaborated on that, instead of just playing it two times.

That part really is incredibly awesome. A beautiful way of saying "Greetings, welcome to the Best Kayo Dot to Date, take your seat".

And I think it's great that they only play it two times.

At this point I can officially say the album has blown me away. It took a couple skeptical listens on my part, but it finally opened up. This just requires a mindful approach with careful listening. There are wonderful little details present on every song, and they all have a pretty great clarity of intention and execution. Perhaps the lyrics aren't as "beautiful" or "fantastical" as the past albums, but they are very cool in their own strangely whimsical way. If you pretend that the music you're hearing is simply by a totally new band, without a name, they fit in quite beautifully with the atmosphere of the album. It's all definitely a more cerebral state of affairs than before, and probably will receive fewer listens than not only the other Kayo Dot albums but many other albums in general. But this doesn't mean it isn't spectacular; after all, who among us listens to Strumming Music very often?
