all that would happen are the guests would register, lurk, and still never post

or there would be way too many TMV fanatic lunatics

my suspicion is that a lot of the 400 guests daily are just adbots who can't login

I think it might be a problem w/ Invision... Every forum I have a an account on never saves my login cookies, regardless of browser.
so yeah, half the time I come on here I'm never logged in. So I hardly post unless its something that really needs to be said, which is seldom.
I've been here a long time, but my posting has slowed down a lot as well. So I ask, what would be considered lurking, not posting or not contributing?

no one minds if you lurk, it's just strange to see something like 400 guests browsing a forum, and considering the slowness of this websites speed at times, perhaps a correlation exists

Plenty of people wouldn't bother signing up and we would lose lots of potential members imo.

If I'd had to sign up to browse the forum, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have. It was only after I looked around for a bit and discovered how cool and funny this place was that I decided to join.

There are some HUGE numbers of guests on at times though.

could we possibly severely limit the number of guests that can be logged on at a time?

I'm not aware of that option being built into the IPboard, though it might be or most likely is possible. Though, I don't think it has much of an effect on the server performance and I think guests don't have too negative effects when it comes to bandwidth, either (guests don't see signatures, avatars, etc.). So, I'm not sure if there would be much of a point in limiting guests to be honest.
