The Fall
Guys
There are many threads there that need to be removed, it's just a shithole, and I havent even looked into the two other album subforums. Why aren't there new mods assigned to this subforum?
I also just recommend combing through most of the threads in the main forum, there is just sooooo much spam, even in the relevant threads, too many for me to just keep hitting the report button over and over.
I'll keep nardo's advice in mind, and make better use of the report button in the future.
EDIT: I see quick action has already been taking regarding many of the threads I pointed out here. Thank you very much for that. How about cleaning up those ancient pinned threads as well?

I'm not actually going to file any complaints about Drunkship since I know it is a general discussion forum and whatnot, basically anything goes, but I stopped spending time there cause it was basically madness, and there's a lot of people there who don't even care about TMV, they're just there because they love to socialize or goof around under the shield of a false identity, or have lots of time on their hands.i am deeply saddened to see you of all people do not appreciate drunkship.
please make me a full list of things that you find fit the general discussion classification and send it to me so i know how to better accommodate the totatlity of your needs.
However, there have been an increasing number of those people going back into the Mars Volta main subforum and either spamming or just making fun of TMV and not being helpful to the site in any way. Sometimes, it just makes me wish everyone in Drunkship moved to a non-Coma-related web forum, although I know that won't happen because they are so integral to this site's continued existence.
I guess what I really want in my mind is a return to the more glorious, less spammy days of the first 3 years of the Coma, when everyone here was to discuss and celebrate a band they loved. I know this is a pipe dream, so what I'm asking is that efforts be made to at least return the parts of this forum related to TMV into places where it's easier to find relevant news and have (at least somewhat) thoughtful discussion. I think moderation that is less tolerant of spam and thoughtless, relentless, one-sided negativity towards the band (instead of criticism). I know this means asking for a noticeably stricter standpoint from the mods, but that wouldn't have to continue once people get the message. I remember a time when I used to hate Cybrid for his relentless closing of threads, but I quickly realized how helpful that was back in the day. Where is Cybrid now?
Also, consider this: Within the past couple of months, there have been at least two totally independant websites designed basically to save users the hassle of having to navigate through all of the fat of the Coma. I'm thinking of the Marble Shrine trading site and the new blog that just lists all known, new, official TMV news, basically ripped straight from the Coma. There has also been a request for a TMV RSS feed. These sites were unnecessary before the ends that they are a means to were easier to accomplish on the Coma, and I think the blame for this lays squarely with the noticeably inactive mods.
Consider this, as well: Very recently, the two members who in their own very separate ways embody what I feel are all of the great traits of the Coma, firstrays123 and sgriska, left the Coma. While I can't speak for all the reasons behind sgriska's departure, I got the sense she was really sick with a lot of the shit people were giving her, and which she saw on the Coma. Firstrays, to paraphrase something he told me outside the Coma, basically said that he no longer had enough time to log in and wade throught all the shit to find something helpful. Their departures are very significant events in the history of the Coma, and for nothing but bad reasons.
Finally, I know that Theory doesn't give two shits anymore. There's no skirting around that fact. It's very clear, based on his (in)activity on the forum, his abandonment of the Breed project, and the absolutely incomplete TMV official site, that he does not care to do anything beyond what the band pays him to do, or letting the site die outright, as his willingness to buy a new server (that we paid for) and move over the site files to it. To be honest, I get the feeling that he does this out of a sense obligation to his own created site, and so that the he doesn't lose the band's business. That's all fine, and I'm grateful that the site continues even now, but that doesn't mean the site has to go down the toilet. The least he could do is appoint another administrator who is much more eager about the band, the site, and the community.
I know this was a lot of venting on my part that I needed to get out, but I think there is some really valuable, important criticism here that has not been fully vocalized until now, and I urge the moderators and administrators, especially those charged with running the TMV-based subforums, to take these criticisms to heart, and to the moderators' subforum for some much-needed discussion. Please do not just toss this aside and try to please yourselves by thinking that nothing's wrong and you've been fulfilling your duties, because something is wrong, and that is at least partially the result of the mods not but fulfilling all of their duties.

I never go the main forum because all of the spam as well. I still adore TMV and it's degenerating pretty quickly and without guidance it' getting pretty "down there." I would also really enjoy some intelligent discussions taking place there. Over time, I really felt this place sink some and lose something. From the time I started, may not be incredibly long but maybe enough to know when it was good.
I hadn't known firstrays left or sgriska, but I was gone for some while. I guess that's when sgriska left. All I know she was very helpful on the TMV discussions and i enjoyed reading her thoughts.
I do really hope that some moderation does come soon, and thanks for posting this post. And no one else was coming around...so I figured I'd post and help you out some.

Less than one year and I honestly don't see this continuing after that point.
this place is definitely not what it once was- could be time for serious change.

I'm actually kinda shocked I don't see mine(Famous People and the Volta)The issue is that you can't hit a "report" button for a whole thread. Instead I'm just gonna point out threads that mods need to have a serious look at and see if they actually serve a relevant purpose by continuing to exist, either because they are spam, have already been discussed, or need to be in a different subforum:
Main Forum:
4th Album News (how is this not an umbilical blister?)
King Krimson Similarity (has already been discussed, and this thread is now just a King Krimson discussion)
Omar Rodriguez Lopez Group in Fuji Rock
Se Dice Bisonte, No Bufalo Lyrics

Cedric's Side Project
Triple J impossible music festival

I really think it should be on that list. It really does not serve a purpose.
Why did I start it? I was bored
I believe it's in the main part. So delete that one too.
and I believe you misspelled Crimson

just stay away as far as drunkship is concerned. i am not going to ask people to have respect for the mars volta, i am not going to disallow what i see in my eyes as harmless spam (you remember what that is right carruthers?) and turn it into a drunkship dictatorship.
i may not care about the mars volta as much as you do but i do care about this site and community and try my best to make sure the section i am in charge of is fun.
i could try to cater to your needs. i could start closing nonsense topics that i don't find funny.
but i don't.
you can say i am to lenient, but i think more people will enjoy drunkship with a little lax ruling, rather than the daily closing many of so and so's topics.
heavy moderation of drunkship, in the time i have been here, has led to nothing people getting mad at mods and creating more bullshit.
i know just eliminating certain posters and things would make the place better for you.
this place however was not built for you.
it is for us. so we must look at all issues and consider what is best.

and hellobidies posted something that was along the lines of 'who cares just smoke a joint'
also cla maybe the mods feel 'so over this place' because any attempt they make towards doing this job are met with cries of YOU'RE A FASCIST JUST LET US HAVE OUR FUN
but whatever man you can have your ridiculous fun cause i know where the real cool cats hang out:)

with more moderation - complaints about fascism
with less moderation - complaints that moderators don't care or aren't doing there jobs
either path i take for someone is going to cry.
so let's stop crying.
