I am sooooo pissed. Tonight, my friend calls me but I never picked up. I call him back like 7 times, he doesnt pick up. He calls me later, and tells me I just missed out on an amazing show by this band, Hella. He bought the newest CD, and holy shit, I couldn't be more angry about missing them. The show was free, was at the college across the street from mine. I did get to see an alright band that played after them, though, called Out Hud.

Zach Hill also contributed his skills to a great San Francisco band called Crime in Choir. People really need to check out their second album The Hoop... one of the best releases of last year. Here's a link where you can download some songs from that album...

i just saw hella last night. it was a great show but way too much new stuff. i'd say the show was 80% new stuff. 60% of that was church gone wild.

that's usually how tours go though, when a new album comes out.

Next time they come around they'll probably mix it up more.

But I also raelly like the new album, so I don't care as much.

Yes - absolutely terrific band. Better than Hella in my mind.

I also heard a rumor that Zach Hill did some recording with Janet Weiss (drummer for Sleater Kinney) and Matt Cameron (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Wellwater Conspiracy). That would be fucking intense.

Yay for the Sun Gallery.
Did you go to the show at Weeke's Park?
Sadly, those shows are about to be extinct.
They were fun while they lasted.
The beaurocracy ate us up.

Anyone going to the Davis hella show on May 5th? It may be free, cause some of the other big name bands that have played at the coffee house here (deerhoof and these arms are snakes) their shows were advertised as being free (i was out of town). Other wise it will probably be cheap.

I just saw Hella last night in Baltimore.

Holy shit.

First off, Spencer's Dad is in the hospital, something serious, so about 4 days ago he had to leave the tour. They decided to continue playing without Spencer, though, and did a complete show of improv--several other people joined Zach on stage. Someone on bass--and a shitload of pedals--and then that guy Cex sitting on the side of the stage playing entirely pedals and microphones. There was also a girl onstage pretty much throwing a tantrum and having a heart-attack while screaming.

I really wish I could explain to someone just how fucking awesome it was. It was completely unlike anything i've ever seen--and personally I think it was way way better than anything Hella has ever done.

My favorite part, other than being mesmerized by the drumming, was some of the vocal effects being used. The girl was just sort of screaming and yelping intermittently, but then her voice was being sent through some sort of stereo-delay throughout the whole club. It made it sound like random in the girls in the club were just screaming--until it got louder and louder and louder. Eventually people in the audience began screaming too.

If anyone can see Hella in the next few days, you absolutely must go see them.
