^^^Are you serious? I got my copy in the mail yesterday. Funny.

I'm really enjoying "Apollo Stars", do the other albums sound anything like it?

Golden morphed into Extra Golden - now afropop - instead of whatever it was they were back in the late 90s/early 2000s.
Here is their website: http://www.extragolden.com/store.html

You can purchase the old Golden CDs.
Recently read J Theo was at one of their shows, as was drummer from Tool. I have been into afropop for some time, especially from Uganda, so this is pretty good too. though gotta say it's be sweet to see JT playing with them again. Dreams.

where'd they play? I've run into Jon & Danny Carey together at a couple of shows in the past two years; they seem to be homies.

I think they played the echo or spaceland in los angeles...one of those places and it was last summer...i think. it was a review on the show. reviewer mentioned that extra golden didn't have many peeps at show which he thought was too bad...i myself would have attended but do not live in l.a. he also mentioned carey and jt were at the show long after half the audience had left.

sad isn't it? you try to make art and bridge cultures and whatnot and people won't even give you a fuckin' ear for an hour. i get it though...their music is an acquired taste. not everyone likes the jangly guitars that are a hallmark of afropop but still drink a beer and get your dance on.

Does anybody have the Golden and Rhythm-Beat Jazz EP? I can't find it anywhere on slsk (yet). It sounds really interesting. All instrumental + the horn section from HiM...

This two-song, 20 minute instrumental EP finds Golden deeply immersed in an exploration of the Afro-pop, rhythm-beat world (ie, contemporaries of Fela Kuti). Here Golden tone down the heavy guitar riffs featured in the Super Golden Original Movement LP/CD and focus their concentration on building and sustaining a complicated and thrilling rhythmic scheme. These two songs were recorded at the Trans Am recording studio onto 8-track and feature Fred Erskine (from June Of '44/The Boom) on trumpet, Carlo Cennamo (from The Boom/The Sorts) on alto-sax and Josh LaRue (from The Sorts) on trombone.

Golden and Rhythm-Beat Jazz is a musical collective under the direction of the following individuals: Phil Manley from Trans Am, Alex Minoff from Six Finger Satellite, Jon Theodore who spends time with the Royal Trux, and Ian Eagleson who simply plays the role of his own bad self.

Just found this little gem over the weekend (old vinyl stack in Amoeba). The first side is "Songhai Suprise" and side B is "Shatzie Hatari." Have it in wav if anyone's interested.

could someone possibly re-upload the rhythm-beat jazz ep? i'm getting really into golden and hearing from what you guys say this is something i should definitely hear. it'd be much appreciated

New interview with Phil Manley from Golden/Effin' Champs over at Flabmag http://flabmag.com/2...our-life-coach/ that mentions an ongoing collaboration with Jon called Golden State and the probable resurrection of Golden proper sometime this year!

For those of you who are interested-and apologies if this has already been posted- this appeared on Youtube pretty recently and is super sweet: http://www.youtube.c...feature=related
Golden Summer & Apollo Stars are their strongest records, in my opinion.

Also, for those of you interested in checking out Jon Theodore's recordings with HiM, 'Our Point of Departure' is a great place to start: LINK REMOVED
