That name Fantano, though. Something about it just seems untrustworthy.
because it's foreign sounding?

I sounds Italian. No one likes 'em.

I find Anthony Fantano to be very entertaining and I enjoy his reviews.
I agree, his reviews always deliver an interesting point of view from where you can see hear the given album a bit differently.
There's one thing that bothers me about his videos though...
...all those silly cuts, trying to make himself look like the funniest man alive which he is certainly not.

He definitely knows a lot about music and is an informed individual. He is a bit of a genre whore, but I think most people like that.
I hate to sound pretentious, but the more I've been podcasting and writing reviews the more I see how terrible the majority of these youtube reviewers are. There are miles of difference between an Ebert or Christgau versus random asshole with a blogger or a youtube account. I am not saying anything about my skills (as I don't think I'm a great writer at this point in my life), just that to write or speak a good review does take a lot of skill. Everyone has an opinion, but not everyone is good at articulating it clearly or eloquently.
Read some of Ebert's old reviews. Hate him if you must, but he wrote very well and conveyed his thoughts on a much higher level than some random ass-hole in the comments section of Amazon.com.
I don't think it will happen, but I'd love Riffnralk to one day be a bastion for high quality writing. I find so many online 'journalists' to be complete garbage. The breadth of the internet is killing the depth that existed in journalism or nearly any media. I feel bad for the truly talented writers, speakers, photographers, etc. as they have such a more infuriating climb to make to the top. Individuals don't seem to care about high caliber work anymore so there is no need for the highly skilled.
