SNDLPVN is the first album i've ever bought via bandcamp. I felt obligated to support Carson financially for being awesome.
The album is mindblowing, he's a great guitarist!!!

i know via a reliable grapevine that Carson played on this:

Carson also played in a band with a totally inscrutable and unspellable name, Hautahuah

^Also ungoogleable, lol. When you search for Hautahua, the mumbling bands catalogue thread I created is the first result. The word looks like a pretty standard Hawaiian term, to me, like Kealakekua or Honomanu, even if it's not actually a real word. (edit: minus the T, which doesn't exist in the Hawaiian language).

Will check those links!

i'm not sure that a Hawaiian word could end in 'h' like that. i'm not a linguist but afaict Hawaiian seems to me like the type of language that doesn't permit words to end in consonants whatsoever.

enjoy!

(At the risk of throwing this thread completely off track) That's technically true, but since the H is a glottal fricative (a transitional consonant) following a vowel it's basically not pronounced in that word. The 'H' is called 'okina and represents a break or a cutting, but since it's already at the end of a word, it's totally superfluous. Some more links for those interested in linguistics:https://en.wikipedia...ottal_consonant

and

https://en.wikipedia...org/wiki/ ĽOkina

Anyway, Carson McWhirther. Dude sure can play guitar.

right, it's the ' in Hawai'i. can that appear at the end of a word? http://www.instantha...hawaii?Languagesays not, but maybe they're wrong.

i'm far from convinced that there's any argument in favor of reading it as a superfluous character. in English orthography 'H' is allowed to do different things depending on where in a word it appears, but English orthography is pretty far from Hawaiian orthography, which is comparatively modern and i'd expect in more regular correspondence with the spoken language it represents. if i were designing an orthography today, i wouldn't wanna include any superfluous characters - just wait long enough and language drift will create some on its own. in all, i would be surprised if there were a superfluous terminal 'H' in any Hawaiian word. "Hautahuah" does not look like a Hawaiian word, although "Hautahua" might pass, and yeah, if you pronounce them identically with English's orthography's pronunciation rules for ignoring terminal 'H', then sure, they sound the same and to my untrained ears equally plausibly Hawaiian.
