Led Zeppelin, Seattle Center Coliseum
June 18, 1972, Seattle, Washington

Audience Recording
Master > DAT

1. Announcements
2. Immigrant Song
3. Heartbreaker
4. Black Dog
5. Since I've Been Loving You
6. Stairway to Heaven
7. Going To California

Next request is for this boot from the first Seattle show on the 72 tour. Zep was scheduled to play Vancouver, Canada, on this date. After troubles with fans buying tickets there, authorities cancelled the show and the band was not allowed across the border. The concert was moved to Seattle and buses brought down Canadian fans. They got caught in traffic, delaying the start of the concert. This tape captures the first third of the show, from the beginning announcements through the end of Going to California.

IMO the sound quality here rates a Very Good. It's a shame this is only a fragment. The music is rich and full, all instruments are fairly clear and well balanced. There is a bit of muffle to the edge of the sound - the taping equipment was perhaps a little overwhelmed by the volume, but it did a pretty good job with fidelity. Crowd noise is minimal. Plant's voice begins very weak with the first Viking war cries, then warms up to OK. The overall performance is confident and rock-solid. I recommend this one to the casual fan - it's very listenable quality Zep in their prime & it will only take a small piece of your hard drive.

Tool - 03.30.97

Source: DAT -- Core Sound Binaurals > Sony TCD-D8
DAT: DAT-? > Digital Clone-?
CD: Unknown Transfer

Notes: Good audience recording. The taper must've stood close to a stack of speakers as the sound is very clear, crisp & the crowd is very low. I am pretty sure that this was an outdoor venue as the sound, although clear, just has that outdoor feel to it. This was a festival performance, the setlist is evidence of this as well as other reports. Sound is not as superb as it could be with the equipment used but is still quite good & a nice addition to any collection. Interesting setlist as well. It is surprising to me that the DAT version sounds so much fuller - even better than the CD transfer that is so common out there. Although the Gen is "?" I assume that it is not much past 4-5 Generations deep. There is no hiss or other annoying noise which is definitely a plus. The DAT version is most likely a 3G but I cannot verify it. Since there are other DAT recordings + cassette copied floating around it is assumed that there are also more than just one rip of this as well on CD.

Time: 67:19

Setlist:
Crawl Away
Stinkfist
46 & 2
Eulogy
Prison Sex
Merkaba
Sober
Opiate
Ænema

Maynardism: "Good evening hippies"
Maynardism: "This is kind of a love song. Ever since the Catholic church removed everything that was feminine, intuitive & emotional from Western religion, sex has kind of gotten a bad name. I think it's kind of disappointing since sex is the most positive energy you can generate in the entire Universe. People are afraid to
have it anymore. I think it's kind of ironic that you're afraid to have sex but you'll smoke. And you know that kills you. In my opinion, it would be a lot better to die fucking than smoking..."

8 Sanctuary
9 Another life (cut at end)

32:26 min

First of all i would like to thank kips1963 for seeding the original version!
Thanks mate!!!

Well i?ve decided that this concert needed a menu and while
i was at it, i found out there is enough room for another version
of Beat Club on one single sided DVD. So i re-did the sound and
cut the the tracks (not in the what i would call the "right order"
but just follow kips1963 version. What i did just look below.

I called it "re-made" because i think if i call it remaster,
then i would be lying because to remaster you have to have
the master which i don?t. I don?t work at Radio Bremen!
All i have is kips1963 version of it!

Do you need this version you ask? Well, yes!, if you are a person
who think that the sound of this concert needs a dash of reverb, BUT
still has the original version on it if you fancy doing yourself
one day. And it has chapters and a simple but great looking menu.
And and you wish you could skip the booooring in between cuts that
don?t belong there, then this one?s for you!

I?ve included kips1963 original textfile just in case you?ll need it.

Fancy version changes:
EQ: added a small dose of low bass and 2 db at the 2k area.

Wrathchild the fade in/out before the chorus is corrected.
I?ve added the sound from verse two and crossfaded.

I took out the first Sanctuary and took some of the picture
at the end of the first version and put that at the end of
the second Sanctuary. There was a small wooble in a couple
of frames so i changed it. Plus before the Another life starts
we will se two seconds more of Iron Maiden instead of A mother
and her son looking happily at Iron Maiden

i?ve also added a bit of reverb on the music. Not too much
Just to enhance the experience. The band sound so bleak with out so i took
som artistic freedom here!

And at last i cut out all inbetween banter from the anouncer Uschi Nerke and
fixed the bit of Ides of march. I changed the picture so we don?t have to
see the tracking text from the VCR.

Review from Tight But Loose website:
Empress Valley have come up trumps with this release. The sound quality is simply stunning and it is hard to tell the difference between the audience and the soundboard tapes. As much of the show as exists has been assembled, and the editing between the two recordings is seamless. It was however a bit of an overindulgence to release the soundboard tape by itself as the third disc, this really should have been a two disc composite. Having said that it is still the best version ever of this great show. (Jules McTrainspotter Nov 01).

Review from Saitoh:
I personally agree that during HMMT, the slice to the soundboard to complete the song (and medleys) is very VERY hard to pick up. it is so well done (it took me 3 listenings to figure out it's just a couple seconds before 9min flat, and that's with the knowledge of where the Divinity source ended). While the soundboard is decent quality (not stunning, but it is easily better then the previous Charisma release), it has been heavily tweaked, and evidence of this can be heard during some of the quiet parts of the medley (it's not aggrivating, but revieling more or less).

While this is originally a 3 disc release (notice the matrix numbers at the top), I'm not posting the very last disc. Why? Because it's just the partial soundboard tape that is in circulation, and since the audience tape is better quality (for 1970, that's a scary, scary thought), it's not worth the time to post and download IMHO (if someone wants it I'll post it, but I dont think its needed as the above reviewer noted).

final note by dt (tilly) - I guess somebody wanted it, because this entire rip came directly from Saitoh, shared on DC. Notes and comments complete.

By request, here is Zep's show in Boston on the Fall 70 US tour. This was near the end of the tour, after which they would take 6 months off the road and record their 4th album. After fighting with the promoter about fees and a planned 2nd show which the band backed out of, there was a certain amount of tension at this show; there was also heavy police and security presence. Also at this show was radio DJ JJ Jackson (later one of the original VJs on MTV). After having befriended the band the previous year, he'd been hanging out with them on their West Coast swing; he was the 2nd guy that comes on here, briefly, to introduce them.

IMO the sound quality of this boot rates a Good+. The main issue is the persistant tape hiss. A little crowd noise is present, usually at quieter moments or between songs, but they sometimes have the irritating habit of clapping along with songs. The music is clear, the instruments sharp and separated. Plant's voice is strong and not much distorted by venue echo. The performance is typical early Zep; Plant is powerful and wailing, Page is shredding all over the place, and the rhythm section is rock solid.

Thanks to original uploader last April whose name I failed to note.

I have edited the recording and cut out a few bits and pieces of the radio moderator at the beginning, end, and the end of Track 07. Slightly mastered in terms of overall sound quality.

Here's a classic Pink Floyd bootleg, I saw it several times on various trackers but never from original silvers & with clear lineage.
I have finaly found these silvers today at a record fair (still sealed!!!) so I share it with you folks ;-)

This is a soundboard recording and well worth seeking out, but one can see why it was not officialy released:
Dave has one of his trademark laughing attacks during 'Fat Old Sun'. Also, during the closing segment of 'Cymbaline' (after the footsteps sequence),
there is a particularly bad and prolonged problem with the sound system, causing Dave to burst into laughter once again.
Roger introduces the show with a "good morning" and introduces 'More Blues' with remarks about it being "too late for mind expanding music,
so we'll play some music to calm down by", presaging his words years later before the concluding encore of the infamous Montreal '77 concert.
There is a minor amount of tape hiss, and a somewhat more annoying distortion during loud passages which prevent a EX+ rating for this CD,
but then again how often does a newly uncovered Pink Floyd soundboard recording like this appear?
The most important thing is Disc2, Track 3 'Just Another Twelve Bar' It's the first available recording of this blues number

Here are the songs intros by Roger:
- Astronomy Domine: (someone yells "Roger!") 'Good morning, this is called Astronomy Domine'
- Fat Old Son: 'This one's Dave's and it's called Fat Old Sun'
- Atom Heart Mother: 'We've got a new album out at the moment and it's called Atom Heart Mother and there's a track on it called AHM, which is got brass instruments
and a choir, as well as us, but we do a version without the brass and choir and we're going to do that now and then we're going to take a break'
- Cymbaline: 'A song we recorded for a film called More. The song is called Cymbaline.
- The Embryo: 'This song is called The Embryo'
- Just Another Twelve Bar: No intro
- More Blues: 'Ok, it's a bit late for mind expanding, so we're going to play music to calm down to' (song fades out before it's finished, so there are
no further comments).

This is part of the "Warning" Tour. They had also 2 tunes (*) of the "Powerplay" CD (which was published shortly after the tour) in their set. Why "Slow Body Poppin" is in the beginning (fade in) and the end (fade out), I can´t explain...
I like this lineup very much, Dean Brown is rockin´ as always, and Gerry Etkins is probably one of the most underrated keyboard players ever. Does any one know what this guy is doin today? Never heard of him again after he left the band, found almost nothing in the net. Strange!

The show is cool, quality A(+), enjoy!

2 - Stairway To Heaven

Next request is for Zep's show in Ft. Worth on the 73 US tour. They were 2 weeks into the tour by then and playing very well. This soundboard stops at Stairway and so is missing Moby Dick, Heartbreaker, Whole Lotta Love, and the encore, likely Communication Breakdown.

The 73 tour was a sort of turning point for the band. Constant radio airplay of Stairway helped massively increase Zep's popularity. This was the first tour where it was more than just 4 guys in jeans playing music; they actually had a stage production with laser effects, dry ice, backdrop mirrors, hanging mirror balls, and pyrotechnic effects. A new light show was added which required several days rehearsal by the band to get the timing right. They also hired a publicist for this tour, not wanting a repeat of the 72 tour where the Stones were getting all the press. The US audience responded and the band sold out stadiums. On the 2nd show of the tour in Tampa, they broke the single-act attendance record set by the Beatles. They had really hit the big-time by now.

IMO the sound quality of this boot rates an Excellent. Like many 73 boards, the drums are up front and the guitar a bit more back. Winston has done a very nice job; this is close to professional quality. The performance itself is very solid other than the weak vocals typical of 73 Plant. D&C is terrific and my favorite here. From Underground Uprising:

"
Any release on Winston Remasters is virtually guaranteed to be of very high audio quality and completeness. The source for this release is a first generation cassette of the original soundboard master, transferred to VHS tape and then remastered. The soundboard recording from Fort Worth is one of the very best quality of all the soundboards of Led Zeppelin in circulation. It has been released several times on commercial labels, but fortunately Winston Remasters have now applied their expertise and we have got a tremendous record of a very good concert from the 1973 North American Tour. The interaction between Jimmy Page and John Bonham is evident during Celebration Day. His playing on the tympani and Plant's dedication of Dazed And Confused to the Butter Queen gave rise to the title adopted by Midas Touch in their 2CD release Tympani For The Butter Queen. A great version of Dazed too. This title is well worth seeking out, and hopefully does not fall into the hands of the Cashmere label, who have ripped off two of Andrew's productions (Vienna and Seattle 1973) lately. (Jules McTrainspotter May 05)

I have Tympani For The Butter Queen, but have now retired that release forever. Winston Remasters have presented this show in absolutely beautiful quality, without the frustrating flatness of Midas Touch's release. The recording now has depth, and separation of the instruments and their balance is unmatched anywhere on Tympani. Of particular beauty in this recording is the prominence of Bonzo's bass drum in tracks such as NQ and TSRTS. Dazed is also a total treat, once again with the type of depth and dynamic of a finely mastered soundboard recording that only Winston Remasters issues. At the end of the day, the audio of Zeppelin bootleg recordings is really what makes the difference. Winston Remasters has, once again, presented the audio of a concert that far outclasses all prior releases of this show. All junkies of the 1973 tour will absolutely love this release. (Symmetry101 May 05).
"

Thanks to Winston for making and sharing this.

This is an awesome show. Bob was really hot on this one for sure.
He does a lot of cool improv type stuff that he usually doesn't do.
During the encore he keeps singing "a litte bit tighter" and develops a little jam
out of it. It is really Bob probably telling the band to play better.
Also really great scatting on Burnin & Lootin.
I give it an A for sure.

Stevie had a sore throat for this concert (he mentions it a few times during the show) and plays many instrumentals rarely heard during "normal" shows.

Soundboard recording with not the best quality on it. Maybe can be rated as a SBD A-, but still a great show to take a listen. Let's see the instrumentals and the time Stevie play for each song on the setlist.

Here's a nicely recorded (A-/B+) AUD of this short-lived but very interesting Santana lineup. Some may have the King Biscuit recording from the previous night in NYC, but while the recording quality here isn't as good it has the advantage of being a complete show. A few songs from the then-new album Amigos plus the greatest hits, spiced up with some of the most aggressive drumming ever heard in Santana, courtesy of Ndugu. A few months later Carlos and Tom Coster would be assembling an entirely new band for the Festival album.

Led Zeppelin
1977 May 30

Disc 1:

2. Sick Again
3. Nobody's Fault But Mine
4. In My Time of Dying
5. Since I've Been Loving You
6. No Quarter (has small cut)

Disc 2:

2. The Battle of Evermore
3. Going to California
4. Black Country Woman
5. Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp
6. White Summer / Black Mountain Side
7. Kashmir
8. Moby Dick

Disc 3:
1. Guitar Solo
2. Achilles Last Stand
3. Stairway to Heaven
4. Whole Lotta Love
5. Rock and Roll

Next request is for the last night in Landover on the 77 tour. These shows were broadcast on the arena's closed circuit tv system, so perhaps some video from this run exists. But to date, all that has surfaced from the 4 dates is one soundboard (from the 26th) and some audience boots. This audience tape ran a bit slow and so has been speed corrected.

IMO the sound quality here rates a Good, with some parts reaching Very Good. The sound is a little high-endish and to my ears, there is the slightest distortion to the music (guitar?). But all instruments are very audible and balanced and the concert is easily enjoyed. As with most 77 shows, my favorite here is the No Quarter jam, the band (especially Page) does some very nice work. Some well-written reviews of the show from Underground Uprising:
"
30-May-77 Landover

...this is the best night and recording of the 4 Landover dates in the middle of the 1977 tour. The audience source for this last Landover show on May 30 is mostly good. The opener The Song Remains The Same is overloaded, but the sound improves afterwards only marred by distortion in places, especially in the acoustic set and by a cut in No Quarter. Superb version of No Quarter, during the instrumental Page plays some subtle and restrained lines. Stairway and Ten Years gone are well worth investigating...(Tony Gassett May 97)

This recording is initially excessively distorted (throughout The Song Remains the Same). However, prior to the first verse of "Nobody's Fault But Mine" it clears up significantly, though some distortion persists for the duration of the show. The clarity and vibrancy of the recording continue to improve as the recording progresses. In addition, the source does not suffer from distance or from excessive crowd noise. However, the recorder seems to be overwhelmed by the dynamic range of some of the "heavier" tracks. Page and Plant are a bit more upfront than the rhythm section in this recording.

With the exception of the LA gigs (6-21,23,25,27-77) and the Cleveland soundboard, this is perhaps the best of the remaining full-length audience recordings from the '77 tour available on disc...Due to the poor nature of some of these recordings, the Landover series of concerts is often overlooked in the discussions of the '77 tour. However, these are among the very best shows of the '77 tour, and the atmosphere of the Cap Center is second to none.

After a few late entrances and a good harmonica piece in "Nobody's Fault But Mine", Plant holds nothing back in one of the best '77 versions of "In My Time of Dying" (not quite on the level of 6-25-77). Plant's voice is rough and powerful throughout this show as evidenced by his strong vocals in "In My Time of Dying" as well as "Since I've Been Loving You". "No Quarter" is epic to say the least and features a great/fun instrumental interlude (with Jones doing his best Jerry Lee Lewis), until Page takes over with some extremely heavy playing more befitting the mood of "No Quarter". This is without question among the best versions of this song I have ever heard. Plant makes much ado regarding Jones' slow transition from "grand piano" to bass prior to "Ten Years Gone", and describes the transition to the acoustic set as a "change of colors". The audience enjoys every moment of the great acoustic set, and the band seems to feed off the great vibes/positive atmosphere. "Surrender" is nothing more than a brief unaccompanied Plant reference prior to "Black Country Woman". "White Summer/BMS" serve as a very dramatic intro to the powerful "Kashmir". A powerful "Achilles" is followed by perhaps the best '77 version of "STH" (featuring an exceptional solo by Page... who has been inspired and consistent the entire evening), and the recording finishes with "WLL/ Rock and Roll". A good recording of a great performance; well worth having...(Paul Holdren April 97)

Comments: Tape splice in Drums>Space cleaned up to audio imperceptibility with SF6. There were some level fluctuations both within songs which I smoothed over using the Gain function on SF6.

i downloaded this off the tol server as .wav(dont ask me,i dunno how it slipped thru like that, but yea)...anyways,i immediately burned them on my plex writer cdrw(at the time)and they've pretty much sat in their cases up till now,as i listen to them, they're flawless & excellent soundwise,so i'll post em for sharing with the legions of dead out there in cyberspace..please as always do not encode to lossy formats and share..

By request, here is some studio stuff from when they were recording "Stairway to Heaven".

From answers.com:

"The band began to write the song during the sessions for Led Zeppelin III at Bron-Yr-Aur, Wales, but it was completed at Headley Grange, Hampshire, and finally recorded at Island Studios, London, in December 1970.

The opening chord progression in "Stairway to Heaven" is similar to that of the 1968 instrumental "Taurus" by the group Spirit. The group opened for Spirit on a 1968 tour. While nobody in the group has ever cited influence from the track, the band was known to cover the Spirit song Fresh Garbage during their early days, and Jimmy Page has said that his use of a theremin was inspired by seeing Randy California use one. It is also quite similar to a very slowed-down version of the opening to the Irish traditional song "The Irish Rover". "

Keith Jarrett solo
Musikverein, Vienna, 14.November 2004

Recently we had some requests for more Keith Jarrett - so here we go.
I hope this will animate some more people, to upload some Jarrett concerts - there are so many floating around !
Maybe weasel99 can open his treasure chest again ?!?!

I like this concert very much - it's a bit 'Radiance' like - many not so expanded mprovisations. The quality is decent for an audience recording - please listen to the samples. I got this in a trade and have no idea of the exact lineage.

Keith Jarrett - piano

AUD > ? > CDR

A bit distant, applause too loud, not for HiFi freaks, but imho very listenable.
The speeches are hardly understandable - the usual complaining about latecommers, photographers and so on.

Next request is for the 2nd MSG appearance on the 75 tour. Plant's voice is still very weak from the cold he'd been fighting all tour and Page had his ups & downs. This show combines 2 sources - one tape & one vinyl - to complete the show. The tape covers from the start until a few minutes into D&C, then the lower-quality vinyl source kicks in. The tapers were the chatty stoners who taped many New York area shows in this era.

IMO the sound quality of this boot rates Good. The music is somewhat distant and a bit thin. But the instruments and vocals come out fairly clear and easily listenable. Audience noise, mostly comments from the tapers (about 500 woooooos!), sometimes intrudes on the songs. The performance itself is ok, solid but not Zep at their best. Plant's voice would heal over the next few days and by the 12th-14th the group would be putting on some of their best shows of the tour. The vinyl source used for the last few songs would rate a Fair. It is more distant and hissy and a little distorted from running at the wrong speed, along with a few cracks and pops one expects from vinyl. It's nice to have it to complete the show though.

**Thanks to mustardpie for sharing his source on this. Please see the attached info file for his notes.
