i personally think they're OK, there were a few catchy tunes on wiretap scars... im sure alot fo people were like "man fuck jim ward, he broke up the band blah blah blah" but just musically speaking i think theyre not even close to the level of TMV but they have some simple catchy rock songs, sometimes thats a good thing.

miguel
ps no fighting please. its not that big a deal

i feel sparta havnt progressed and that the music they are making is alot worse than anything they ever did in atdi.

they sound like any other band you hear on the radio there is nothing special about their music.

good, not great. i like some of their songs a lot, but most of them are instantly forgettable pop rock songs.

i like sparta better
ive seen them live 3 times and they are awesome
TMV are also good, but having their album for only a month does in a way influence this decision
it may change in time, but who knows
Wiretap Scars has only left my stereo for limited periods since the day i bought it
the best album of 2002 IMO

I've only heard like 3 Sparta songs. They were okay, I guess. I wouldn't by the cd though.

It's like I heard someone say once upon a time: Sparta isn't bad at all... they're just overbearingly mediocre. There isn't really anything special about the band. I still dig some of their songs, but they pale in comparisson to TMV - hands down.

personally, sparta isnt doing anything new, they chose to do what they wanted to do, which was rock, plain and simple, i was actually having this discussion tonight, what it really is is that sparta doesnt have anywhere to go, musicwise, what are they going to do for their next album, they're just rock,

what i very much like about mars volta is that they're doing something neew , and doing it well, unlike zwan, who i think sucks

ive stopped caring alot about rock, its not that i dont like it, i jsut dont think that the classical stuff( i use classical very loosely) other than certain bands, i could care less, if i hear them or not,. other forms ofmusic that i havent heard as much im inclined to search out, i should find some opera, classical should be intergrated, jazz, and so on and so on, but still, most of that is old.

mars volta seems to be a frontier, but thats just me

[FONT=Courier][SIZE=7][COLOR=blue]Personally i was intrigued and excited to see where the band would go from austere personally i thought it was on the same level of progress as the tremulant but then wiretap came out and i felt so dissapointed at the lack of progression the band had made... thus Sparta for me is in the air.. until the next album.. but ever since tremulant obviously The Mars Volta has become a classic

I saw Sparta at Glastonbury recently and thought they were pretty good. Their songs are definitely catchy and they play better than most rock bands out there.

The only problem was when Jim gave a speech before Cut Your Ribbon about George Bush being an asshole. When he first said it it was cool, people clapped and all that. Then he did the unforgivable. He changed the lyrics in the break from the 'Do you suspect these motives' to 'George Bush you are a bastard' or something like that. I couldn't hear properly cause I was cringing too much.

I think Sparta's a good band. They're just plain listenable.
