(#023) Mantra Hiroshima2010/11/29 - Juan, Zach Hill

Agree with this. a fucking mess but a beautiful, eerie one. some of the weirdest guitar i've ever heard from omar... he makes it sound so creepy with the same lines played over and over again over zachs beastly drumming and juans crazy basslines. the keys just add to the creep factor as well. i'm guessing omar does those also. but damn this is a fucking weird one. probably the weirdest yet. but i still love it! last song is EPIC.
this album is a mess
a good mess
its very soothing yet chaotic
its quite awesome
only omar could achieve this.
thank you very much

As for the album itself, I'd have to agree that it's a mess. It's not my ideal sound that I look for, but I find this to be a very personal album for Omar. I record almost every jam with my friends. Some come out beautiful and others are a complete crap fest, yet I still hold on to almost every single one. There are some very beautiful moments in this album...and sometimes things just sound too cluttered.
I love Zach, but sometimes his chops are sloppy, and it really shows in this album...mainly because the production quality is quite nice. You can really hear some displacement in his strokes when he gets a bit tangled up.
All that being said, I love the ambient nature in this album. I just wish their was a bit more melody and motion with the music. This album really digs in to some of the darker emotions within us. I love that haunting sound, although it still doesn't compare to the creepiness of the vocals on "Frances the Mute."

I wonder if this is gonna take the place of one of the albums from the El Grupo "trilogy" or if we're gonna get 2 more with Zach Hill and Cedric vocals. Either way this sounds pretty sweet so far.
Pretty sure this album is just something completely different from EGN.
Have the other two El Grupo Nuevo albums been scrapped?
no they were just "notions' they were never really albums. But new ones are being recorded.....stay tuned you freaks.
