2015 has been an excellent year for new music so far - as far as I'm concerned.

Here's a not so short list of the albums I enjoyed this year. I'll try - little by little - to link every entry to my favourite track from the LP / EP, or at least a track from the album.

Worst case scenario, it'll be a live version if I don't find anything. I hope you'll enjoy some of these, and I'm looking to see your picks for this first half of 2015,

usually the coma tends to deliver when it comes to discovering new stuff.

  • Hip-Hop / Experimental Hip-Hop

Kendrick Lamar – To Pimp A Butterfly

Death Grips – The Powers That B

BADBADNOTGOOD & Ghostface Killah – Sour Soul

Dr. Yen Lo – Days With Dr. Yen Lo

Lil Ugly Mane – Three Sided Tape Volume Three

  • Jazz

Mark Guiliana Jazz Quartet – Family First

Polar Bear – Same As You

Kamasi Washington – The Epic

  • Experimental / Pop

Björk – Vulnicura

  • Post-Rock

Godspeed You! Black Emperor – Asunder, Sweet And Other Distress

  • Punk / Blues / Soul / Gospel

Algiers – Algiers

  • Progressive Rock

John Zorn – Simulacrum

Guapo – Obscure Knowledge

King Crimson – Live At The Orpheum

  • Drone / Noise

Blanck Mass – Dumb Flesh

  • Classical / Ambient / Jazz

Colin Stetson And Sarah Neufeld – Never Were The Way She Was

Nils Frahm – Music For The Motion Picture Victoria

  • Singer / Songwriter

Jenny Hval – Apocalypse, Girl

Sun Kil Moon – Universal Themes

  • Post-Hardcore / Sludge

KEN Mode – Success

  • Rock / Pop / Electronic / Noise / Experimental / Whatever Fuck It

Django Django – Born Under Saturn

The i.l.y’s - I've Always Been Good At True Love

Olimpia Splendid – Olimpia Splendid

Faith No More – Sol Invictus

Death Grips – Fashion Week

No Spill Blood – Heavy Electricity

Zs - Xe

Liturgy – The Ark Work

  • Singles

Ratatat – Cream On Chrome

Warpaint – No Way Out (Redux)

The Chemicals Brothers – Under Neon Lights

Props to reddit r/listentothis; The Needle Drop; Patsy; Cabezadegallo for making me discover some of this !

If I had to narrow it down to a short list: Algiers / Björk / KEN Mode / Jenny Hval / Colin Stetson are all must listen imho.

"From the rock opera crescendos of the opening Node onwards, the album dares to be both a quintessentially prog-rock experience and a timely act of modern metal derring-do." Chris Cope from Prog magazine added that "at its best, Coma Ecliptic holds some of this band’s most impressive moments to date."["

Can't tell if you're saying that sarcastically because of the name, or you actually like the album... but it's really good.

Polar Bear – Same As You

Cheers, didn't know they'd released another one already!

Jenny Hval – Apocalypse, Girl

We've apparently reached the point where a Norwegian is willing to sing with a more Australian accent than the vast majority of Australian singers.

Cool thread, I've gotta check some of these out. Thanks for including links!

Here's what I've been digging this year:

Marriages - Salome (Post-rock, dream-pop, shoegaze. So sad I was out of town when they came through)

Me Without You - Pale Horses (Post-harcore. Glad I finally checked these guys out, I'm digging through their back catalog now.)

Saintly Rows - Heaven in the Hollow (Punk, screamo, post-rock)

Shana Falana - Set Your Lightning Fire Free (Dream-pop, shoegaze. Great vocal performance)

Yowler - The Offer (Acoustic, singer-songwriter. Super mellow, melancholic bedroom recordings)

West Kust - Last Forever (Jangley, surfy, gazy punk. Super catchy, great dual male-female vocals)

Susanne Sundfor - Ten Love Songs (Synthy art-pop. Incredible vocals)

Team Sleep - Woodstock Sessions Vol. 4 (Cool live set from Team Sleep. Zach Hill is missing, but Gil Sharone is about as good a replacement as you could hope for.

Death Grips - Jenny Death (HAIL DEATH, FUCK YOU WAITIN FOR?)

Carpenter Brut - Trilogy (Super catchy synth destruction. A bunch of tracks from this were used in Hotline Miami 2. Recommended as background music for brutally murdering dozens of Russian gangsters. Obviously)

Godspeed - Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress (Godspeed's most concise album. Piss Crowns is one of their best songs)

Joanna Gruesome - Peanut Butter (Noisey garage punk. Worst album cover of the year, no contest, but a fun listen regardless)

A Place to Bury Strangers - Transfixiation (NOISE NOISE NOISE. An improvement over Worship in just about every way IMO)

I think that's pretty much it so far...Chelsea Wolfe's Abyss isn't out officially yet, but it's in my top 3 of the year already. I'm super stoked for that, as well as HEALTH's new record next month. 2015 is shaping up!
