New Christmas Boxset to be released and a Christmas tour!

Happy Holidays! On November 13, 2012, Asthmatic Kitty will release (another!) Christmas box-set extravaganza by Sufjan Stevens—Silver & Gold: Songs for Christmas, Vols. 6-10, a compilation of 5 EPs recorded between 2006 and 2010.
Expanding on the tradition of the first box-set (Songs for Christmas, Vols. 1-5 from 2006), Silver & Gold is a generous document of five more years of holly-jolly jubilee undertaken by Sufjan and his various musical cohorts.
There's a veritable feast for the eyes of content in the CD and vinyl boxsets. Click here to see all the contents.
Your local record store will be carrying both the CD and Vinyl boxsets.
We are offering a special Mail Order edition of the vinyl boxset, which will come with extra goodies shipped especially for you.

The single can be found here: http://music.sufjan....bum/silver-gold . I think the single is very good...probably better than any of his other original X-mas songs from the first box set.

PLEASE NOTE: Vinyl Box Set may not arrive in time for Christmas. Manufacturing for this product is quite elaborate, to say the least; everyone's doing his/her best to facilitate a timely arrival.

I guess it's going to be all Christmas music? That's cool I guess...

an all X-Mas music set? I likely will pass (although it being at Mill City Nights doesn't help).

I hope it's not all X-mas music, but it still will be a unique experience either way.

Bump to a year old thread because of the Christmas season.

The X-mas show last year was awesome, even though Sufjan was about an hour late.  I remember a good fun set of X-mas music and short set of Sufjan songs.  It was cool to see him at such a small venue.

It's been a year and I still think Silver and Gold is amazing. It's grown on me even more and is probably my favorite Christmas album of all time.  I just ordered the vinyl box set on ebay (sealed) for $109, which was less than retail!  Can't wait to get that in.

If anyone else is interested in getting the Vinyl box set, they just made some more available on Asthmatic Kitty Records site:http://asthmatickitt...ch/silver-gold/

It was sold out previously. Get it before it sells out for good!

Haven't sat through Silver&Gold yet.

Might do one day soon. Need to give it to my mother in CD. Only christmas music I can stand. :)

Still waiting on those 48 other state albums though...

Listening now.  Very bare bones album, but very good song writing.  It's depressing as hell, but I like it.

Sufjan has a project called Planetarium out June 9th. Song called Saturn released already. Just found out about this today. He's releasing some Carrie and Lowell related material, too.

The new album The Ascension released yesterday... it’s fucking amazing electronic Sufjan.

Recommend the first track (reminds me of Thom Yorke for some reason, maybe it’s the beat), Ursa Major, Landslide, Sugar and America. The whole album though is grand.

Convocations, the new instrumental album from Sufjan Stevens, moves like a two-and-a-half-hour electronic/ambient mass for our present age of anxiety and dread; its 49 tracks work through the stages of grief and gladness with emotional mood music that is dreamy, dissonant, vertiginous, rhythmic, repetitive, urgent, and calm—that is, all the things we undergo when we inevitably live through isolation, uncertainty, and loss. Its five sonic cycles (Meditations, Lamentations, Revelations, Celebrations, and Incantations) replicate different stages of mourning, healing and catharsis, working both to soothe our unease while savoring a renewed sense of awe and wonder for being alive in these unprecedented times.

Will Sufjan ever return to his folk roots? The only departure from that sound that I've enjoyed is Age of Adz. I was not a big fan of The Ascension or Planetarium. And he doesn't even have to go back to folk...I just want to find his music interesting and fun again.

The new track doesn't get me excited but I'll give it all a listen as always.

I thought the last album Ascension mixed folk with electronic, no?

How about Carie and Lowell before that?

I don’t hear folk much in Ascension.

Carrie and Lowell was 6 years ago. While I think the album was well done, it was a bit of a downer and hard for me to get into. I guess it’s just me selfishly wanting the type of energy before that album.

Well, the first album is aptly named Meditation. It certainly feels like meditation music.

I don't think this one will get many repeat lessons from me.

I love his electronic stuff, but I’ll admit this new song doesn’t interest me.
