This album is their most approachable one yet, I mean it's got its experimental, complex moments but the shorter track lengths, the lack of metal, the fact that it's possible to actually kinda sing along to it, and that they're not trying to sound epic as fuck do make it their most accessible effort yet, I think.

Most approachable? Really? I think it's their least. Choirs of the Eye is definitely the album I'd show to someone first if they wanted to listen to Kayo Dot.
Anyway, yeah, I think it's alright. I was just so shocked at how different it was that it still hasn't really hit me yet. Probably after a few more listens.

It's quite interesting indeed, that the arguments for its being their most accessible album are actually beginning to win me over, but I still instinctively feel it's very challenging. I don't really know! There are very few albums so paradoxically inviting and challenging.

If you pretend that the music you're hearing is simply by a totally new band, without a name, they fit in quite beautifully with the atmosphere of the album.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who does this. I do it with most new albums I get. I try to approach it without any connotations. I tend to enjoy the music much more, at least from an aesthetic point of view. I make connections and really think about the music and lyrics afterwards, clearly. Initially, I find myself drawn into the music more if I approach it without notions of scene or past releases or anything like that.
I've only listened to this album once, so I don't have a coherent idea of it yet. Listen #2 has just started.

I don't really find where people are getting mixed up. It sounds like Kayo Dot.

I'm REALLY enjoying this album, but as a whole at the moment, specific songs have stood out to me, i.e. Blue Lambency Downward and The Awkward Wind Wheel (which to me feels like the Aura of this album), the rest seemto be a blur at the moment, apart from Symmetrical Arizona, which I like but need to get used to.
Its still my least favourite of their albums so far, but the other two took me a long time to get into properly, especially Choirs, its odd, but with Kayo Dot, i feel more like the 1st albums are on a par now, Dowsing was easier for me to get into, but now i see them as one entity, and I will probably soon see all three as one.

Throw a poll on this thread.
I found Choirs of The Eye to be the easiest to get into.
I still love Dowsing but It never caught on as quick as COTE.
