Seriously bummed no one has started a thread for these guys. The Talkies is a wild fucking record.

Yeah this band rules. Their first record is very good too.

I need to give the Talkies another go. I think this band would probably be a grower

In saying that, Holding Hands With Jamie never really stuck with me beyond "Paul" which is an incredible song. I thought they maybe needed to rein some ideas in to make songs more memorable and leave a lasting impression. Paul did that with me because the repeating baseline really stands out

I had heard Paul a few years ago in a mix and meant to follow up on it but never did. Happened again recently with Laggard and listened to The Talkies in full from there. In my opinion it's their strongest record, I enjoy Holding Hands and the earlier stuff but I do find it more hit or miss in those days.

 

Also imo watching their live videos gives a clearer idea of how all the parts operate and has added to the enjoyment for me.

I hadn't seen that, very cool. Their approach to guitar/bass is so fuckin weird, I love it.
