If that's true, it's disgraceful that Omar paid his bail and kept him in the band.

I like the story about Omar posting bail for Thomas in NYC. They went straight from police station to recording studio with Frusciante. Thomas tracked all the Octa drums in one take in the middle of the night. John was in shock.

Would love to see the source on this.

No digital source afaik. It was Rock-A-Rolla magazine, Issue #21, July/Aug 2009.

Octo drums were tracked in three days. Teflon and Cotopaxi were recorded at 2 am after Omar bailed Thomas out at midnight.

Hahahah what did Thomas get booked for that Omar had to bail him out? Always a weird situation with that dude it seems.....

I mean we’ve known that Omar took that “under the gun” approach to recording since FTM - some guys were fine with it, others hated it, etc. I don’t buy most of the first take stuff - guys had to have at least rehearsed the part with Omar, otherwise dynamics and verses/choruses would have all sorts of different parts/feels because the player would literally not know what’s coming.

That said, nocto does feel rushed and like first takes - if you listen to live dyslexicon v studio version, drums are way more dynamic and cool than the studio version. I dunno album does just have very jarring, abrasive production but I mean that’s what Omar is going for I guess. We’ll see what their next album is like - nocto being the last for them as of now just kind of feels like them limping to the finish line...

Deantoni is one of the most easy going laid-back creative technologists alive. When he invited me to go on the bus when they opened for Chris Cornell in Chicago there was such an air of ease that I'm sure was quite the contrary when TP was touring w the band.

D is a super calm, secure dude it seems. I’m sure Thomas’ wild energy was a trip for a while. Then it’s like ok enough.

D also has the distinction of being the only TMV drummer they never trashed to the press.

Jon - after firing, minimized to the press his contributions which Cedric later very firmly stated he regretted. They did that whole thing where they said Blake is responsible for all deloused drum parts and some of FTM and that Jon just did what he was told, which yes they later recanted.

Blake - praises as an architect of the early band when they brough him back in 2006, lasted a few months and was out the door, which should tell you plenty about what they ultimately thought of him. Juan has been pretty blunt after Blake left how he felt the dude was weird and a bad fit.

Thomas - obviously had a huge impact on the band, they played with a new aggression and they praised what he brought to the band re: how fast and flexible and creative as a writer he was. Then obviously when they had to fire him during the octo tour, they explained the whole immaturity thing. Years later we know more now.....

Dave Elitch - they’ve never said much, certainly a workmanlike guy that they seem to have viewed as a substitute drummer given they didn’t retain him after octo tour commitments. Clearly a nice enough guy who can get the job done - see how they brought him in to do the first antemasue record which imo he does a good job on, only to replace him with Travis barker for the still unreleased antemasque 2....

Deantoni - seems to be the guy that Omar finds easiest to work with just given the sheer volume of albums he’s done with Omar, even still to this day. The guy just vibes with him I guess.

Deantoni also has zero ego since Day 1. Still has the mindset today that he had in 2006 when they first met him regarding: ego, celebrity, bullshit like that, etc.

Great read, tranks for posting !

so much potential stuff in that interview : part.2 & 3 of El grupo nuevo, new de facto record, O/C/D electronic record, and at the drive-in reunion which happened to be the only thing happening.

also the part about Ikey and Juan being core members and family :'(

and the part about Thomas being an awesome human being, when you know how all that shit has ended :whatever:

Maybe that electronic record became Noctourniquet. It was around the time Omar recorded music with D and sent them to Cedric.
