It is nice to see fracture is making itself commonly seen on setlists. Ditto to larks 4 which seems to be popping up a bit lately.

With it sounding like live in Rome is not happening anytime soon, does one guess at an official bootleg maybe getting released from this tour in the vein of Toronto 2015 or Chicago 2017? Would be odd though to not have a 2018 show get released - every year they’ve toured they’ve released some show from the prior years touring....so we’ll see!

Chicago 2017 was released before vienna 2016
I’d meant to say some release of the current lineup has come every year - no release thus far on the books for this year besides the audio diary, but we already basically had that anyway last year.
A boxset including a cd full of live stuff from 2018 is getting released officially (audio diary) so maybe that counts?

2014/2015: new to non royal package folks
2016/2017/2018: songs all available as free nightly downloads aside from the extended radical 1 and bolero. Versions on cd are exact same as versions from nightly downloads

I’m not complaining - we are utterly spoiled with releases by this band and appreciate them. Just commenting on how it’s odd that there’s not a release on schedule for 2019 that comes from a prior tour of this band. Who knows, maybe for the holidays?

Chicago show was a full 2 hours and 40 minutes.

I'll post impressions tonight.  I'll just say that people are becoming super casual with flash photography....mostly the older audience members.

Also islands, easy money, larks 1, and circus from recent shows just posted to DGM for those interested.

Glad to see Chicago was a nice long show! Sad about folks not listening to the camera rules....

ive said it before but this seems like a good time to say it again: these guys should stop. they're clearly slowing down but they're not proving anything to anyone. they've already re-contextualized the victory lap, an impossible feat if you're not a prog rock band let alone if you're THEE prog rock band. and what special things has this lineup really done apart from that, play with more drummers which looks cool but adds only so much, and play songs none of us ever thought we'd be able to hear?

Sounds pretty special to me actually, but who am i

Listened to live in Chicago 2017 end to end for the first time in a while over the course of driving to/from work yesterday and today. Forgot how powerful of an overall performance it is.

Glad they released it - even with one of the drummers losing time during the latter fast section of starless....warts and all is nice to get, I kind of like listening to even pro bands navigate mistakes and get out the other side. Reminds you they are human too

Stray thoughts from last night.

  • I'm surprised at the ABUNDANCE of flash photography and the one asshole who decided he needed to scream during every quiet part. I don't remember the guy going YYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAa on Islands, but maybe my vinyl pressing is different.
  • Mid way through Gavin's solo they went into Hellhounds of Crim which I thought was freaking hilarious.
  • The drum intro to Frame by Frame is real cool.
  • Cat Food sounds great
  • Fripp ripping it up on Larks 4 was a special treat.
  • Red is back to a more classic style.  While I really did dig the 2014 style I'm glad they went back to the old form.
  • The Moonchild Cadenzas have gotten SUPER spicy
  • I have never heard Drumsons before.  Man they drum track is wildly good.
  • I feel like every version of a song from Thrak onward I hear is the best version of it.  The older material had better versions elsewhere though.
  • Near the end of 21st Century all the drummers threw their sticks in the air.  Fun little detail.
  • There is some new mid show sound collage going on.
  • Jeremy isn't playing drums that much this tour.  Lot more keyboards.  Frankly I preferred it.  He is always so loud.
  • Speaking of which this gig was super loud in comparison to the other Crim shows I've seen.
  • No Lizard songs makes me a happy kid.
