Sure but I mean literally everything on that track just sounded like an element of other music I've heard.

Other than some really obscure shit, what music DOESN'T sound like something you have already heard?

Amen to that! Some of the finest music to ever be committed to tape. I could live for a thousand years and I don't think I'd ever get that feeling I got when I first played Cygnus in my car after buying it… I took it home and sat with headphones on with the album on repeat. Couldn't believe that people were capable of making something so amazing. And to think they left of the title track?! Still love it as much now as I did then.  #GoodTimes Cannot believe that was 9 years ago today.

i don't want to be a dick about it, i love frances, too. but for an album that is filled with carbon copies of 70s prog i think it's the worst example for music that doesn't sound like anything else.

Show me the carbon copies, please, because I'd love to hear more of it.   (one pentatonic riff at the end of Cygnus that sounds like Crimson isn't enough to make your case).

Blues rock is blues rock. Saw some guy on reddit the other day that was playing bluesy heavy rock on one hand (just hitting the frets to make sound) while drumming and singing. It looked fucking retarded but people eat it up cause its the damn blues. Same reason I don't like some les bucherettes songs, too much 12 bar...

i think there are multiple threads on where tmv stole stuff from other songs. sure frances is great and innovative but the influences are really obvious: 70s king crimson, 70s genesis, 70s yes and a few sprinkles of gentle giant mixed with the a little more agression and salsa.

of course that doesn't mean tmv sound just like those bands but check out these and you'll know what i mean:

yes - close to the edge

gentle giant - the power and the glory

genesis - nursery cryme

king crimson - larks' tongues in aspic

those may all be obvious to you, but i think tmv took a lot of inspiration in the way the songs are structured or even the structure of the whole record from bands like this so if you want more of this, just go ahead, there's tons of stuff to dig into. (still nobody sounds quite like cedric and i've never heard of another band that mingles salsa into progsongs)

Amp isn't that much more proggy, people just latch onto Tetra. But generally speaking I agree with theresnohell, Frances is probably my favourite album ever but I'd be hard pushed to say that it generally sounds like nothing else I've ever heard. Very, very little music sounds like that.

Nice find, thanks for sharing.

The track is p cool, voice would have been better if it was smthg along the lines of what Dan Auerbach does, but hey.

Those aren't "carbon copies";  not even close.  Thanks for playing, though.

Love me some classic Crimson and Genesis, though.

The track's pretty cool. I like the interplay of bluesy vocals and guitar against D's electronic feel.

Was kind of interesting.  I'd need to hear more.  Am I crazy in thinking Deantoni is doing the same drumming shtick over and over?  Maybe I'm just being cynical.

Don't you remember? He doesn't do trap kit heroics any more.

Sargent House just posted about Best Revenge on their fb page. I thought ties have been severed.
