come on, we all know that "kurt is dead - nevermind" cliche.
haven´t we had enough of that, don´t we?!
i wasn't really being serious. but do you think grunge still exists? nirvana, soundgarden, alice in chains, green river, tad, screaming trees, mother love bone, malfunkshun and love battery are all gone. mudhoney is on a hiatus and pearl jam never really was part of the grunge scene. so yeah, grunge really is dead, as far as new releases are concerned. i still listen to those bands though.

And, post-grunge sucks!
I like grunge influences on new bands, that's musical bagage.

grunge never really existed. tell me one thing soundgarden had in common with nirvana other than being from seattle and heroin. nothing. none of the bands that were lumped together in that scene were ever really alike. they all hated to be called grunge also. it is just a albel the mdeia assgined and that everyone used without thinking.

if it was up to me, the word "scene" would be banned from the vernacular of music lovers. the bastardization of it has tired me. along with "core" and "like _______ meets _______."
I agree with you on "core" and "like___meets___", but a "scene" can be a very real thing, especially in the eighties. Nowadays the internet and mass media might have bastardized the word, but as long as you use it for the appropriate things I wouldn't ban it.

but most painful are those who are still trying to "keep the scene going"
you know?!
like "wahhhh, i wanna start my new nirvana band and i´m 14 - yeahhh"

I would much rather see someone try to keep that "scene" alive than follow suit with current trends. It seems to me, if anything, that those bands just really loved making music. I think as time goes on, these are going to be the bands that kids are will continue to be inspired by. They maybe didn't get a chance to hear it when it was happening. Like how we all appreciate Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Frank Zappa, The Who, King Crimson and all those bands, even though most of us were not even born when they were putting these albums out. So if there is some kid trying to get band together because he can play along to Nevermind, more power to him. At least he is not playing along with Taking Back Sunday...
