I'm becoming interested in Omar's latest method of music-making. He seems to be taking old scraps and drums tracks and piecing them together to write new songs. It's a technique that results in a completely different sound than before, which is why alot of people are getting turned off. But it's kind of cutting-edge if you think about it. It's like Omar's dj-ing/curating/remixing his entire career.

This. 100% right.

I really like the production value, it just seems towards the end despite many cool moments it all starts to blur together. Very interesting album though, I'm happy we got it, first three tracks are top tier.

I play this one and SSM a lot. Not easy listening but rewarding.

No absolutely not. I didn't "get" Doom Patrol until I was going through a "breakup"/rough patch in my relationship.

Y'all keep comparing this album to Mahavishnu & I listen to an assload of Mahavishnu and just don't really hear it. Guitar tone is (sort of) similiar to John Mclaughlin but besides that what else?

Mclaughlin played on most of the Miles Davis records throughout the 70's so I assumed this was a comparison. Don't really hear it myself; that is all.

Highly influenced by Miles Davis' He Loved Him Madly. I love the abstract stuff Omar does, and rate this very high in the series. Obviously not an easy listen, what I love about this is that it is like a landscape with some songs in it, if that makes any sense.

Parts lifted from Tomato, Killing, Virgins and possibly elsewhere - but a singular experience.

This album is top tier of the 23, for sure. Mantra/Tomato, CAN, Beefheart, Mahavishnu stew.

Yup. The only Mahavishnu-like piece is Tlaquepaque from A Lovejoy, and only about 45 seconds of that with the guitar solo.

Tlaquepaque is the track that initially hooked me on A Lovejoy. I think Deantoni is credited with drums but it sounds closer to programmed drums.

It's D. That's his specialty, to make it sound like its programmed.
