So, who thinks this new batch slays the first one ?

I know people are pretty vocal about how the first is their favourite but I don't think I've read anyone saying they love this new set of releases (so far) more.

If we're going to compare the standouts for both batches, for me at least, it's...

Sworn Virgins

Umbrella Mistress

Zapopan

Nom De Guerre Cabal

vs

Roman Lips

Zen Thrills

Chocolate Tumor Hormone Parade

Gorilla Preacher Cartel

Killing Tingled Lifting Retreats

I guess that makes the second batch better by one album? But the second batch doesn't have Sworn Virgins so...

I prefer the second batch. the first batch was hit or miss for me, second has been much more consistent imo. corazones, infinity, Snil, Zapopan are all bottom of the series for me.

the jarring nature of the series ending or pausing has in a weird way launched my Omar fatigue into the abyss and now I've really only listened to this album all the way through once and then only skimmed after. The single is great no doubt but I just feel like there's no rush now and there'll be plenty of time. This one seems cool but maybe lacks as many melodic ideas or things that stuck out in my head after the first listen. Probably just a little denser and needs more time and listens than some of the others.

Aaaaaah I knew if I gave this album some time, maybe listened to a classical Omar album first, it would grow on me.

I really find it hard to listen to track 2, but track 1 is dope if a bit weird, and the rest is pretty much hot fire once you get over that "omg Omar's doing it weird again" hurdle

Vocals are p loose too which is a good thing :D

I mean Your Hazard Name is obviously easily listenable, but when I'm not just skipping from track to track looking for a nice sound, it's all very very good.... a seamless, albeit very weird, listening experience

I liked this album a lot first time through but it's quickly fading for me, the single is amazing but just so weird and all over the place, i like a lot of elements here and there, and i think had we gotten this earlier in the series i  wouldve appreciated it more, but this is very haphazard and it's hard to imagine many times I'd ever want to put this record on. something about Minor Cuts I could always imagine having space to play that record once in a while, even though it's more of a fucked up record. to me this one is a better version of some need it lonely but really definitely not near the top, not near Gorilla level either... I feel like I have a higher tolerance of the fuckery type stuff,

Your hazard name sounded cool the first time i heard it, but it gets cheesier, hard to imagine I'd think about listening to it if it weren't Omar, and additionally Birth of a Ghost makes a track like Killing Out The Special Tide kind of irrelevant and uninteresting...

Please tell me I'm not the first to notice the similarity in album cover with Do Make Say Think's LP You, You're A History In Rust...

No, I thought that as well. (By the way, wait til the new DMST album comes out in a few weeks  – it may very well be their best record)
