Did he stop using Sonny because they had a falling out or was it just a clear separation of aesthetic when the Ipecac stuff started?

i think it was a falling out, i wouldn't be surprised if omar told him to make a dozen covers that never got used and sonny got fed up, that's the vibe i got from that "string theory" post he made on instagram. then again i wouldnt put it past omar to just up and switch and never tell him like he did with ikey and adrian allegedly. hopefully someday they make amends or whatever because their art worked so well together

it's a shame he isn't more active on social media nowadays, i love his art but his website sucks and always has despite it being redesigned 3-4 times. i guess it's to funnel folks to buy his book, which i'm definitely getting

I'm going to pick up the book too.  It is a shame if they had a falling out... I enjoyed the common thread that existed between Sonny's art and Omar's music..similar to Yes and Roger Dean.

I wouldn't assume they had a falling out, It's possible somehow some of the albums/art with Sonny's work were somehow under Cathy's control and one of the ways to get around that was to get was too work with a different artist for covers... 

 

I like this cover, but some of the ones from the  series have been awful

nah that can't be it, he works with 311 and they aren't on SH. i doubt there's a "no sonny clause" in whatever paperwork broke up RLP

This is pure speculation, but I think Sonny was working with SH after the RLP split so that might have been what soured the relationship.

yes its before, that's why it came out on sargent house. last confirmed cover is woman gives birth. unicorn is probably him but wasn't ever confirmed, same with equinox which i could see being someone else as easily as him

I don't think that's relevant, but in that case, Weekly Mansions also has ORL in it and bright warm colors, like this one. I bet this is a dancey one.

it was also posted about 2 weeks after everything was removed from bandcamp etc. seemed like it may have been a barb or an expression of disappointment

I don't want to speculate on their relationship. I just figure it was easier to use mackie who seems to have a relationship with Ipecac similar to Sonny's at SH. As well as that, most of these liok like they took a day at most to create, so perhaps art in the same style as Sonnys just wasn't feasible or affordable in the period of time
