i think I agree with fantano's score on this one, and his points. Since Tool's last album came out, I have gotten into all sorts of 60s, 70s & 80s prog, and exciting modern prog and stuff with avant garde leanings, and maybe I'm biased because what I'm listening to now contains a lot more movement and energy, but this new album just sounds really really boring to me and repetitive. maybe i've just fallen out of being a fan of theirs in the time between records. the grooves aren't exciting or unique, the riffs aren't either, there's no drive to it, it's all just there, existing, slowly and boringly. it ticks all the Tool boxes - but just about and doesn't do anything new at all. My favourite track might be that drum solo interlude, chocolate chip trip, but just the first half, where the drums haven't properly come in yet, because then i can imagine an exciting drummer like deantoni playing over it instead of the Tool drumming that eventually comes in.

Watched a bit of that. I don't watch reviews, generally. Maybe I'm old, or too protective over my industry, but god I can't stand jump cuts. Or if you do them, cross fade a bracket of frames either side.

Man nowadays is it attention deficit for people that makes them give the low ratings? I feel like the songs fly by. They’re interesting and far from boring. It must just come as a shock to people used to 3 minute songs.

Lollllll pretty funny. He looks like he’s trying not to cry after hearing it. But his initial reaction is just about how I feel.

You have to admit Tool seem to cash in on overextending songs that could be shorter, a lot of bands these days in their genre write long songs with an insane ammount of variation, Tool is the complete opposite. No wonder they were working on a 1 song album.

And cash in on $40 for a CD. I mean, what good is cool album art if the album itself isn't that great?

After looking at the art and the video I kinda felt ripped off.
