weird results, no votes for Poseidon and The Power To Believe?
that's why I chose to put multiples choices when I did a poll in Vondelpark

Lizard and Islands are heavy underrated. I think Red is a weak link in their discography.

i've decided that belew is the best thing to happen to fripp (aside from bruford of course) and it is evidenced by the fact that he has been the only musician to make it twenty some years with him.

listened to islands on the way to work this morning, damn that one is really nice. i have been spinning nothing but can and crimson for the past month. help...need new volta...

Can't stand Adrian Belew. Something about him seems really cheezy to me.

I remember the day I decided to delve deeper into king crimson's music (after an initial listen to "in the court..") and the first words I heard on the album were:

"Heath food faggot..."

That's why I voted for Starless.

Red and Discipline are both super cool.

Court of the Crimson King is great... a classic, I guess... Not quite edgy enough to do what the two above do for me....

Thrak also has some really cool songs.

Can't say any of their other albums have particularly captivated me.

and, as of late, i'm really starting to love the shit out of three of a perfect pair when it used to honestly be one of my least favorites. i loved what they were trying to do with the two sides... it feels like they were almost written by different bands (except imo dig me should have ended the L side [dig me but don't... bury me *click*] and nuages should have been the first track on the R side.. an entirely instrumental side would have been very kick ass)

i def prefer belews voice to any of the others, doesn't have any of that english folk feel. his lyrics are not that great, but luckily i don't give a shit about them. i can appreciate lyrics if they are good, but vocals are really just another instrument in the mix as far as i'm concerned. i think his pop leanings really benefit fripp as well. like the modern sounding stuff much better than any of that classical/romantic influence. there are moments of such beauty on all the belew records that were previously unattained.

few bands truly progress. i can't think of any others that made it thirty some years and did not become stagnant. these guys are just amazing. i will be quite pleased if the volta can have the same career. they are certainly on their way.

sorry but all i wanna do any more is talk about crimson. was listening to poseidon today, and i'm not so sure that i can definitively pick a favorite record. they seem to be broken up into four eras, and i can def pick a fave from each.

version 1.0 (court - islands)
poseidon.
that shit rocks. hard. criminally underrated

2.0 (larks - red)
red.
starless. fuck the world

3.0 (discipline - three)
discipline.
those interlocking guitars put me in some kind of trance

4.0 (thrak - believe)
i only have thrak and can't wait to hear the other two

what are y'alls picks as such? this poll is too limiting.

i swear, when i listen to crimson, the volta or earth, i feel like my third eye is opening. wish more music had that power.

interesting..

1.0 Lizard (although i'm not particularly fond of "lady of the dancing water", i like the change in formula from the first two albums.. and the guitars in cirkus are fucking killer)

2.0 Starless and Bible Black (I'm surprised they didn't just release this as a live album due to the fact that most the songs are just live jams... probably because fripp wanted "fracture" to be perfect. and it is.)

3.0 Beat (though i don't love "heartbeat" and "two hands", tracks like "neurotica", and "requiem" still blow my mind every time I listen to them. i would've picked discipline but "the sheltering sky" eats up too much of that album for my taste.. they could have cut 4 minutes off of it easily and added an 8th track.. but to each his own)

4.0 The ConstruKction of Light (although i miss bruford and levin, I have to give it up for fripps guitar work on this album because it's fucking genius)

beat is another of their records that gets an unjustified bad rap. it is different, more of a pop record for sure, but it fills a certain need. kinda the octahedron of their discography. i do love it like i love all their stuff. neurotica and requiem are as great as anything in their canon for sure.

i could listen to just sheltering sky on repeat for an hour in the right frame of mind. discipline established a new musical language for them. and the fucking drums on fucking indiscipline

i am really starting to believe they are the best. band. ever. fuck the beatles. fuck led zep. fuck faith no more. fuck the mars volta. long live the crimson king. really hope they awaken from their slumber once again.
