is it the aesthetic itself or do you guys think they don't do it justice?
The aesthetic's cool, they got the right idea! But it feels a bit stale, the keyboardist plays all these same arpeggiated lines and they constantly put the bass player in the solo space, which I frankly don't think he does justice. The drummer is great and one hell of a showman but they never really take off, at least not from what I've seen.
But hey, at least they're out doing something! Just a little more dirt and I would probably love it!

After two listen, I'd say it's a good album but from far from their best. I must say I was a bit disappointed over my first listen because I really loved this kind of 'retro-modern' sound they come up with on the first two tracks, put me in a fine nostalgic 70's animated movie state of mind, but then they go to this more traditional, classic jazz side which I'm just not the biggest fan of. With the track IV I kind of loose my interest and don't get it back until the end, except for the one track with the rapper, but then the band sorta disappear behind the singer.
The Colin Stetson song is truly a highlight on there.

I love the oldschool, nostalgic feel of classic jazz, but I couldn't heard a whole album of it unless it was really dynamic

Random off topic: Do you guys hear e.s.t.? Check out their last Album leucozcyte:
Hell yeah, just listened to that track yesterday. The build is amazing!
Pride of my nation.
They did release one more album, posthumously. 301, it's from the same sessions as Leucocyte! :)

Just finished my first hearing of IV, definitely not the best they did, but there are still some nice tunes like Structure No. 3, IV, and Chompy's Paradise, I just really loved the darkness they have in their compositions.
III > II > IV > I > Sour Soul

So BBNG are opening for RHCP in Barcelona later this year. Psyched since they're gonna get tons of exposure thanks to that, but its such a weird pairing.
