As someone who has never been super big into Radiohead, is there a breakdown/list anywhere of the standout stuff in this release?

Only if I got furloughed. Which probably won't happen.

Ah, yeah. You WFH at the moment then? I'm about to get furloughed, any day now.

WFH for the 4th week in a row. It's better than I thought it'd be TBH.

I'm on my 5th WFH week in a row, next one will be the sixth. I too am surprised how well it goes. Truth is, I've been kinda practicing social distancing before it started (just a phase in me life when I just pick very carefully who I go out with or even talk to...), so this aspect of it all didn't hit me that much. Kind of a recluse, anyway.

Are Radiohead too good?

They make everything they do look stupidly easy. It's been like this since HTTT (when they played the Kid A/Amnesiac tours, they had a genuine sense of risk). They've got to a point where they can play anything they want, put a set together by random factor and it doesn't really matter, does it? Whatever they play, they're going to be nearly note perfect and it'll be a great gig.

The are definitely impressive live (I have not seen them just going by bootleg dvd's,bootleg audio recordings, festival videos, youtube, etc). The amount of songs and the setlist variety is pretty nuts. They could totally get away with a much safer touring style. They are damn good.

I mean, it's like they're so good that you can just forget about them completely sometimes, you know? And then you think, fuck why isn't this band my favourite band? They're clearly the best band in the world, aren't they? I don't think it's possible any more for bands to become that big and popular and maintain their relative integrity. I forget about Radiohead all the time, but they're really on another level to everyone.

What I most appreciate is how they keep redefining who they are and what they do, morphing at will and doing it as an incredibly popular band that tours arenas and headlines major festivals. That to me is an amazing tightrope that they seem to navigate effortlessly.

It’s awesome to see and awesome to follow - then the more you read about them and you see how insanely hard on themselves and critical of themselves they are. What with songs like lift and true love waits that they just tinkered around with forever or stuff like videotape where the song sounds simple but has a ton of syncopation to it, it’s just cool to see. Gives hope that other mainstream bands take this tract that these guys take, nine inch nails takes, etc

At this point they do seem super effortless, but no doubt Tom probably tortured himself inside to be that good and the other band mates to a certain degree.

I remember when Liars toured with them after Drum's Not Dead and came away talking about how they understood what a really professional band is all about.

Agree with all of your statements. Also videotape is so great. I think rhythm is one of the most interesting things about this band... I know so much more adds up to the final product but rhythm comes to mind first, then electronic elements or use of head space/guitar effects...
Rhythm also seems like a huge element for Tool as well and I can say that while their touring sets are the most rigid of any other band, their studio work is also very Radiohead-like while not straying too far from their genre. They have that way of using their instruments in new and exciting ways too. But Radiohead is certainly the bar when it comes to this. Nine Inch Nails, while I love them and what they put out, manage to evolve just enough to stay interesting but are largely what they were 20 years ago.

Radiohead definitely know a thing or two about 'business' as well. They know how to make money and what it do with it from what I've read about them.
