Started out good, then it just turned into another Gizz song we’ve already heard before. They need to hook up with Rick Rubin, Alain Johannes, Neil Young... someone who can push them out of the box and away from their familiar tricks.

Weird thing to say

Rick Rubin and Neil young are both kings of familiar tricks

lol for real.

KGATLW are really genre-busting, each album is like a lottery of styles, you don't know what it's gonna be.

Fuck get that sweet sweet Pono money.

So I assume LW is microtonal Vol 3.

This video feels  a LOT like a Talking Heads video

Neil would change just enough between releases to sound different while still adhering to the successful formula that brought him fans. That’s what I’m getting at. Him and Gizz are actually more similar than one would think, in that they both hopped genres from album to album.

To me it seems like they set out to make something new, but keep getting bogged down by the trappings of familiarity. I also think Stu’s limitations as a vocalist contribute to it.

neil young...?

I think I'm gonna sit this album out though, feels like more of the same to me too and after the highs of 2017 and infest the rats nest that's disappointing

When is the last time Rick Rubin did anything worth listening to? He’s done some amazing stuff but i can’t recall anything good in the last decade at least.

Based on "if not now then when", i wouldn't expect this to be microtonal vol. 3.

I'm thinking more like a mix up of leftovers, like gumboot soup.

nothing even close to this track. that double drumming at 1:20 is like a B-52 elephant walk

its better than KG but i really hope they cool it with this style for a bit because its becoming "their thing" and the thing i liked most about them is how they don't have "a thing" other than making better rock based music than anybody else. so much of these two albums sound way too similar and i know they're supposed to be 2 parts but still. that being said, loved the tack piano action all over the second half and KGLW is a great addition to their drawer of microtonal stoner doom metal songs

I agree.  Time for something different, and it doesn't have to be something they haven't done before...just different than these last few albums.

Love KG more. KG is just one long raga krautrock jam with a euro rave middle part in intrasport. I know it continues their microtonal experiment but to me it's so much better than fmb because of all the acoustic instruments. It's honestly my fav album of theirs together with poly.

As for LW, i like the keyboards throughout and i think that's a cool new layer they're exploring, but I'm generally less excited by this than I've been about most of their albums. Last time i was underwhelmed was with gumboot, and I've learned to love that one in the meantime.

That said, i think the closer, KGLW, is stoner heaven and is by itself better than most of rat's nest

KG had pressing issues due to COVID so I'm wondering if they are just holding off.  Gives us all a chance to catch up on buying the older albums.
