I really haven't listened to much new music this year, so much catching up to do but Robyn's album was bold, unexpected in style, and had an endearing artistry to it. Sandro Perri's record was reassuringly beautiful, as was to be expected, Didn't know Ka had an album out this year, super cool. Oneida's record felt slightly cold, but subject matter reflected in music I suppose. I need to listen to the new Fucked Up. A Perfect Circle can hold up as worst album I've heard this year. Generally speaking, I've spent most of this year listening to Yes, metal (getting into the Slipknot albums I missed), old italo pop, Nate's EP,  my kid brother's ever prolific output, and working on my own stuff (over and over and over again). Thanks for the list, will check out all xxx

Yeah, still a month left.
Listening to Heavy Dreamer by Vanishing Kids right now. It has to go on my list. Crushing heavy Stoner/Shoegaze mixed with dreamy Souxie/Cure Goth and even a little 80s hair metal.

Kind of a let down year for me.  Some solid releases, but nothing that completely rocked me like the last few years (Black Star, To Pimp A Butterfly, Black Messiah, Volta shit).   Riff & Rock will do our year end round up episode soon and honestly no clue what I'll say is my album of the year at this point

Those that came the closest probably...

serpentwithfeet - soil

Lucy Dacus - Historian

Pusha T - Daytona

Kali Uchis - Isolation

Mitski - Be The Cowboy

Mobley - Fresh Lies Vol. 1

Vince Staples - FM!

Spiritualized - And Nothing Hurt

Czarface & MF Doom - Czarface meets metal face

New released by David Byrne & Dr. Octago were really good too.  Nothing mind blowing, but just great music that I'll listen to often in the future.  Carter V was shockingly decent too

Lot of massive disappointments

Adrian Younge - Voices of Gemma

Deafheaven - Ordinary Corrupt Human Love

Decemberists - I'll Be Your Girl

Fucked Up - Dose Your Dreams (I finally gave them a try after years of hype and this bloated mess was just a slog)

Lil Yachty - Lil boat 2

And this year provided some shockingly bad albums

Migos - Culture 2

Greta Van Fleet - stupid garbage that will have them mainlining Bonaroo in a year

Tom Morello - Atlast Underground

Have to agree with The Decemberists being a let down. I did like Severed. They just release an EP that is better.

The Decemberists hopping on the synth bandwagon seems like a cardinal sin

I thought this year was really strong, especially the last 3-4 months. My top three are gonna be all timers for me I think.

  1. mewithoutYou - [Untitled]
  2. Daughters - You Won't Get What You Want
  3. Sumac - Love In Shadow
  4. Pianos Become the Teeth - Wait For Love
  5. Saintseneca - Pillar Of Na
  6. Idles - Joy as an Act Of Resistance
  7. Gouge Away - Burnt Sugar
  8. Lingua Ignota - All Bitches Die
  9. Nicole Dollanganger - Heart Shaped Bed
  10. Emma Ruth Rundle - On Dark Horses
  11. Yowler - Black Dog In My Path
  12. Anthony Green - Would You Still Be In Love
  13. Mol - Jord (best Deafheaven album released in 2018)
  14. Many Rooms - There Is a Presence Here
  15. Birds of Passage - The Death of Our Invention
  16. Grouper - Grid of Points
  17. Lydia Brambila - Migraineur
  18. Thom Yorke - Suspiria
  19. Efrim Manuel Menuck - Pissing Stars
  20. Wreck and Reference - Alien Pains
  21. Marissa Nadler - For My Crimes
  22. Witxes - Orients
  23. Boygenius - Boygenius
  24. Portrayal of Guilt - Let Pain Be Your Guide
  25. Street Sects - The Kicking Mule
  26. Gillian Carter - This Earth Shaped Tomb
  27. Birds in Row - We Already Lost the World
  28. Tim Hecker - Konoyo
  29. Ostraca - Enemy
  30. HEALTH - Singles Series

I was not really into the new Death Grips or the new Deafheaven unfortunately, and the new Guerilla Toss didn't do much for me either, but everything else I was anticipating delivered. There's a pretty big list of stuff I still need to check too.
