They are crazy. Crazy good. Good crazy.

There's been a thread on them before. Some overenthusiastic moderator will close this and direct you there and we'll never speak of the band again.

There was a thread on their album, yes, so people here seem to enjoy them:

yes, very crazy. it's like theatre mixed with metal. the first time i listened to them i got a song or 2 and just thought "this is weird" and stopped. this time i am getting all of the new album and i like it more. still weird, but good weird.

yea, dredg is the reason i was checking them out. well actually, dredg fans. people on the dredg board listing them with their albums of the year. i think i heard of them from tool fans before they even toured with dredg. it just took me this long to really give it a try and get into it.

I've only got the most recent album. i got it at the same time as some Estradasphere and Ephel Duath who I consider better purely because I've listened to them more. But the donkey headed adversary of humanity is a stunner.

Why would it be locked? This thread is about the band in general...the other that Nardo posted is specifically about the new album. It seems like some of you put more energy into complaining about locked threads than we do actually closing them.

Anyway...I had a hard time getting into Of Natural History too...until one day I was listening to the track "Gunday's Child"...and the whole thing kind of clicked. Great song. The album is still weird as hell, but I like it a lot.

I've been listening to them recently. Kind of hard to swallow initially, but it's definitely growing on me.

i've said it before and i'll say it againg, SGM is better then TMV.

but i couldnt imagine getting into them with "Of Natural History" its so thick i wouldnt know where to start. it'd be much easier to start with "Grand Opening & Closing," just pretend their live album doesnt even exist, its terrible. but Of natural history is almost a concept album, everything is tied together, so its hard to get into them with that album. they're such an amazing band, they have that QOTSA dynamic where there is no real frontman. 12 string guitar, electric violin and homemade percussion, that just cant be beat. i kick myself because they come to town once a year, and everytime i'm too busy to drop everything and go see them live.

and d/ling the album online is wrong. they package their cds with quite a bit of reading that adds a lot of sense to their albums. thats Dada for you

i just want to whole-heartedly agree with this statement...i will buy a cd if i like it enough...if i don't do this, i end up buying something like antics...which was a waste of my money really...

dont get me wrong, i dont condem previewing an album before you buy it, maybe d/l a few songs to see if its worth it, i'm all for that. but SGM stuff can be terribly hard to find in stores, and if you actually own the album it is much easier to understand the band, which is really needed considering their dada roots

I think Idiot Flesh was better than sleepytime gorilla museum. It's a shame they broke up. Everyone check out the album "Fancy".
