I'm really into Ghost Reveries and yes, Blackwater Park.

And I mean, Damnation is good in a some kind of way. It's not like other Opeth, it's really pretty.

Have you heard all the others? I know its quite different but I found they all really grew on me. Morningrise has been my favorite as of late.....

Advent + Night and the Silent Water + Black Rose Immortal = AMAZING!!!

I have listened Still Life, Deliverance and Orchid (not probably enough though) but not really Morningrise and My Arms, Your Hearse. They totally need a lot more listens.

I finally got around to getting a copy of Ghost Reveries. :)

How fucking good are these guys?

Hands down one of the finest "metal" bands ever.

i was surprised at how bad their accoustic album was considering their breakdowns are usually pretty cool.
the only opeth album anyone needs it morningrise.

actually listening to this stuff now im frankly a little ashamed that i ever liked them.

How about "cookie monster"? That always worked well for me as a descriptor for that vocal style.

I got nooo problem with cookie monster vox, it was metal that got me into music to begin with. :)

Yeah, I know lots of people that call it that and can't get into any music that has it. It took me awhile to get passed it but now I can't imagine certain music without it.

There are some extreme haters on here so I'm surprised at the lack of negativity.....

I'm always confused by comments like this

what exactly is it that makes you ashamed of ever liking them?

its nothing like "oh man these guys are so horrible how did i ever like them".

its more like "i listened to these guys like 4 years ago and now i just cant see what i liked about them."

morningrise is still pretty sick though.

How are those two albums? Do they tend more towards the growly death metal side of things? Lord knows I've already got enough growly death metal in my cd collection. I only have the last four Opeth albums, and it's the non-metal influences that really grab me. The metal stuff is amazing, don't get me wrong, but it's made all the moreso by the mellower sections.

Opeth also have some really cool rhythms.

Oh yeah, and the Lamentations live DVD is incredible.

MAYH is when they started doing something different.
