Just in case anyone isn't clear about how we've been doing things for the past few years, posting links to unauthorized copyrighted media is prohibited on the Comatorium. It's all about ensuring the safety of the board so that we still have a place to come to everyday and talk about all the music we're stealing. Just kidding about that last part...well not really. Anyway, this policy includes direct links to albums and songs, as well as yousendit / rapidshare / sendspace / megaupload etc. links. If you have something that you want to share, you can trade the aforementioned links via PM or exchange Soulseek aliases. Then there's the free and legally hosted music that's usually available at myspace and purevolume pages, as well as at official band sites or label sites. Also, many free and legal mp3's can be found at big review sites like Pitchfork or online retailers like Insound. Failing to find full legal mp3's to link people to, other online retailers like Piccadilly Records, Aquarius Records, Juno Records, Dotshop and Audiolunchbox have tons of audio excerpts (usually around 30sec to 1min in length) for people to sample. With all the above options, this policy really shouldn't get in the way of you providing audio samples for anything you're recommending in this forum. Besides, even if you provide absolutely nothing in the way of audio samples, most people are internet savvy enough to find songs, albums leaks and such on their own via p2p networks and musicblogs
Here's an example of this policy in action...http://forum.thecoma...showtopic=51017
See? No links to pirated material posted on the board, and the music still flowed freely.
Note: This policy doesn't apply to live boots (that is, unless we're talking about a widely known, officially released live album etc.)
Additional note: Enforcement of the above policy becomes stricter when it comes to official TMV releases. For obvious reasons, when the release for a new Mars Volta album rolls around, we usually end up cracking down on people even hinting
at where to find leaked material (let along posting links)...we're still a band forum after all. So, yeah...you've been warned.
