Yup. My heart still fills with excitement everytime I see this thread bumped. Man if they could reform... Getting paid was so promising for their future !

Thanks for the videos !

I'm almost ashamed to say it but apart for some specific songs, mostly Guajira and Everlasting Beacon, Getting Paid doesn't do that much for me. Groovewise and productionwise it sounds a little too middle of the road for me. The grooves could have been heavier and the melodies are mostly too weak, if you know what I mean. It's neither a chill to-groove record or an avant melodic one. I think it's mostly the production though, more dirt and fat and it would've probably worked better for me.

I always thought it sort of fell victim to the same thing Noctourniquet did: we were used to hearing the live versions and then when the album dropped the recorded versions were slightly slower and tamer. Still a solid album though, just a common side effect of hearing music live before it’s released.

I agree, some of the ZM bootlegs from a ORL (might have been secret TMV gigs??) tour were great. The songs definitely had a swagger to them live

Yeah these guys were so good live; really tight, but it felt like they were constantly on the edge of loosing it. It was very exciting haha

Hard to replicate that in studio
