Hey Comies,
What were your favorite albums this year? Overall I thought it was a really good year for music.
These are my favorites, unranked except for the top 3.

Post em if ya got em

28 - White Lung - Paradise
Punk with incredible guitar. Lars Stalfors produced this, actually.

27 - Hannah Moriah - Rattler's Garden
Folk / Singer Songwriter

26 - Touche Amore - Stage Four
Post Hardcore

25 - Tim Hecker - Love Streams
Ambient / Drone / Electronic

24 - Swans - The Glowing Man
A fitting end to an incredible series of albums

23 - Suffocate For Fuck Sake - In My Blood
Punk / Screamo / Post Rock

22 - Russian Circles - Guidance
Post Rock / Post Metal

21 - Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool
Sad music for sad dads

20 - Nine of Swords - You Will Never Die
Awesome hardcore with absolutely ferocious female vox.

19 - Muscle and Marrow - Love
Beautiful doomy rock

18 - Melt Yourself Down - Last Evenings on Earth
World / Jazz / Punk

17 - Marissa Nadler - Strangers
Great live show
Indie / Folk

16 - Mamiffer - The World Unseen
Ambient/Post Rock

15 - Living Hour - Living Hour
Shoegaze / Dream Pop

14 - The Hotelier - Goodness
Indie / Post Hardcore

13 - Horse Lords - Interventions
If Philip Glass wrote a math rock album, it might sound like this. Highly recommended for you Comies.
Math / Jazz

12 - Frameworks - Smother
Post Hardcore

11 - Fire! - She Sleeps, She Sleeps
Jazz

10 - Emma Ruth Rundle - Marked For Death
Folk / Shoegaze

9 - Doprah - Wasting
Trip Hop / Dream Pop

8 - Death Grips - Bottomless Pit
Noise / Electronic / Punk / Rap

7 - Cult of Luna and Julie Christmas -Mariner
All hail J.C.
Post Metal

6 - Crystal Castles - Amnesty (I)
Electronic / Experimental / Dance

5 - Boyfrndz - Impulse
Grooves all night
Post Hardcore / Psychadelic / Art Rock

4 - Bloody Knives - I Will Cut Out Your Heart for This
Frigid Noise Rock / Post Punk

3 - Omar Rodriguez-Lopez
I'm gonna lump the 12 albums Omar put out this year into my #3 spot.
The first 12 albums in the Ipecac series are of mixed quality, as is all of Omars solo output, but the batting average this year was really high. These albums cover such a huge stylistic range, from Volta demos that never were (Aranas en la Sombra) to left-field vintage pop gems (Corazones/Umbrella Mistress) to insane future punk (Nom De Guerre Cabal), that the occasional dud (looking at you, Infinity Drips) does little to diminish this incredibly diverse, accomplished series. It's been an incredible year for die hard ORL fans, and with 12 more albums coming in 2017, the ride is only half over. What a time to be alive.
Art Rock / Electronic / Pop / Punk / Dance / Audio Garbage

2 - Wreck and Reference - Indifferent Rivers Romance End
Not for everyone, but their genre eclecticism is still yielding wild results.
Solid as ever, and a killer live show to boot.
Post Punk / Electronic / Industrial / Metal

1 - SUMAC - What One Becomes
I love ISIS as much as anyone, but this is the best thing Aaron Turner has ever done. Composition, performance, production, it's all incredible. Cannot wait to see what comes next.
AOTY for me.
Experimental / Sludge Metal / GET WRECKED

Nice to se Fire! in there! And yeah, SUMAC is incredible. I usually don't dig growling vocals but this albums is perfection.

For me it's probably The Glowing Man by Swans. Very good record.

2016 was weird, Omar kind of killed my music consumption, so I didn't digest as much as I'd like. Anyway, here's a list of the releases I enjoyed the most

Danny Brown - Atrocity Exhibition

best track: Pneumonia

probably aoty to me. i love that he went with the ballsy production on this one, opposed to Old where it seemed like he was trying to appeal to a more mainstream audience. Danny's best is his craziest

BadBadNotGood - IV

best track: In Your Eyes

these guys are too good. such a comfy album, im still finding new parts to love.

ScHoolboy Q - Blank Face LP

best track: Groovy Tony/Eddie Kane

wasnt really expecting to like this one, but it goes hard. a couple of dud tracks, but solid hooks and genuine bangaz on this one

A Tribe Called Quest - We Got It From Here... Thank You 4 Your Service

best track: The Space Program

again wasn't expecting this to be so good. excellent to come back after nearly 20 years and hit it out of the park like this. great tribute to Phife as well

E L U C I D - Osage

best track: all of it

probably a bit disappointing that i enjoyed this 16 minute experiment more than i enjoyed his debut LP. but this thing just keeps the foot on the throat, no idea outstays its welcome and some nice cameos by my boy billy woods in there too.

Marching Church - Telling it Like It Is

best track: Up For Days

much more mature than the last effort, and im such a sucker for jazzy post-punk. Elias' best singing on record too

Omar Rodriguez Lopez

best tracks: Umbrella Mistress or Perdido or To My Fallen Head...

i love him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tim Hecker - Love Streams

best track: Collapse Sonata

not quite as good as Virgins imo, but still a really great listen. and a kind of hilarious concept for an album like this

clipping. - Wriggle

best track: Shooter

this thing is dirty. what i love about clipping, not splendor and misery (yuck)

I've got to give the new BBNG another go, I just wasn't in the mood when I first listened to it and I haven't revisited it.

I really liked Cobalt's album Slow Forever. I don't know if it would be classified as a best of black metal album, but its sooo good. Double album, and what's cool is that the music is all made by one guy, and the new vocalist kills it too. Check it out if you like heavy metal.

Man I totally agree on Santana IV. Was so looking forward to it but those lyrics kill the album for me. Forgot about Awaken my Love in my list.
