I can't wait for Pitchfork's reaction...

Yeah, I keep checking their site. My prediction is that Pitchfork will give it somewhere around a 4 or 5. They've never given The Mars Volta a favorable review. I don't expect them to now.

Since no one else has posted this yet, here's Rolling Stone's review:

By Jon Dolan
March 27, 2012

It's been three years since the noisiest little prog-rock band in Texas put out a record, but they haven't been slacking. Their newest is a "future punk" experiment based on a comic-book villain (Solomon Grundy) and a Greek myth (Hyacinthus). Ner-dee! The results send the band's usual tornado time signatures through some serious synth-and-gear grind; "Aegis" suggests Radiohead as emo metal. Some songs explore emulsive alienation (see "In Absentia"), but TMV are at their best dabbling in shades of aggro: On "The Whip Hand," shrieker Cedric Bixler-Zavala imagines himself "a land mine" ready to "blossom." You don't wanna mess with an art rocker who has a latent fondness for the smell of napalm in the morning.

This review is complete crap and is basically a plagiarism of every other review I've read thus far.

Wow.

Wow indeed. It's like the reviewer isn't even trying to write something cohesive. Radiohead as emo metal? Bullshit! Don't they even know any band apart from Radiohead?! Its not like Radiohead is the be-all end-all of music. Just because Noctourniquet has a lot of synths, i've seen a fair amount of idiots comparing it to Kid A. I love Kid A but comparing every album with blips and bloops to it is just fucking retarded. FUCK ROLLING STONE

Yeah really disappointed with the RS review. Allmusic gave
It 3 stars (less than they gave octa...) and they mentioned almost nothing about the album. I usually go to Allmusic to find new music but that review is just bull shit. They lost credit in my book. I swear some of these critics didn't even listen to the album

What a joke. I wrote off Rolling Stone as a valid magazine after naming "Drive" the best film of 2011. Boat full of retards over there.

Is Pitchfork even going to review it? That would be hilarious if they didn't.

If they haven't done it by now, I don't think it's gonna get done.

I'm never reading another Mars Volta review again, unless it's Pitchfork, because at least they'll give an opinion and really go into detail on why they hate it. EVERY REVIEW has stupid phrases like "jackknife rhythms" "sprung from the ashes of seminal post-hardcore band At The Drive-In" "vocal histrionics" "guitar pyrotechnics" "nerdy" "sci fi" "concept album about blah blah blah...crazy huh?"...it's truly a fucking joke. They just say a bunch of random phrases, and give it 3 out of 5 stars because they know that it's "different" but they don't get it enough to truly have an opinion other than "ew weird".

Here's my Nocturniquet review from Our Vinyl.

http://ourvinyl.com/...-noctourniquet/

Rest assured that this review comes from a Coma member, so there's no wild inaccuracies or other annoying crap that usually plagues a Mars Volta album review. Whether you agree with my opinion or not is something else all together, but it was put together with thoughtfulness and love.
