Trey Gunn is gonna play with crimson projekct in august 2020

wait...why is crimson projekct starting again?  This is so pointless with real King Crimson touring unless you are that hung-up about hearing Dinosaur

95% of the repertoire between crimson projekct and KC dont repeat. Crimson projekct always played gigs when Tony and Pat had a chance. They never stopped. They just stopped touring but still play single gigs from time to time

They call it "Levin, Mastelotto, Belew and friends" now for some reason

They don’t include crimson in the name anymore so as to not create any market confusion. The official, fripp-led band is the only thing out there with a king crimson or crimson moniker. I forgot that they periodically play still - Levin and Mastelotto and those guys end up playing like 1x per year with Adrian after that summer camp they do.

Hahahahahah that would be funny but no.

Also looks like prolly 6 week tour is legit - pineapple thief is on the road all fall which will tie up Gavin. So unless they go 6 man lineup, imagine just the summer tour!

He’s not my cup o tea personally as a whole, but that’s just me. Vocally he reminds me kind of of David Byrne, but his vocals don’t resonate with me like David Byrnes do, so I dunno. Excellent guitar player but his vocals just ain’t my thing. Then again, for KC I’m more a fan of the pre-80s stuff and the current band, so that’s kind of my tastes. And yet, I think indiscipline is an awesome song and sounds better to my ears with the sung version jakko does vs Adrian’s original version. Just personal preference.

That said some of the instrumentals from his era rock: frakctured (yeahhh I know it’s mostly a fripp song) and level 5 are always delights. And the current band does a killer version of neurotica, albeit without the vocals until the bridge (which imo works better). Frame by frame, sheltering sky, indiscipline, and discipline are all also great songs that Adrian had a big part in writing, although I’m not a fan of the production on the studio versions.

Thats a joke. Yes (with a new singer and Howe mastermind) vs. Yes (feat Wakeman Rabin Anderson)

Because he is the longest singer in the band, sang on most of their albums. However i do prefer 69-74 KC to belew era and i was so glad that King Crimson started playing old material again and i got the chance to see them live

I love all their material with belew. I just listened to some new live albums and im sad to say that i don't enjoy it much. The production and the excessive sax shit everywhere is just .. i don't know

It's like a more complicated 1990s pink floyd

I feel the same way about scarcity of miracles.

And that version of indiscipline on meltdown... is just, ugh, i don't know, a bit gross

To me, construkction of light and power to believe are highlights of their career. I guess to each their own

i kinda like the production on the 80s stuff, it has that clean sheen that it needs without being overwhelming like a lot of 80s works. granted im only really familiar with discipline

and yeah the production on these live albums is pretty sterile. the stuff without the audience is grand moff tarkin levels of uncanny. really cant inject life into it though, that's also kinda how the shows sound. very very very dialed in

Belew is definitely super quirky to the point of irritation.  I like his guitar playing a lot.  Some of his solo instrumental stuff is a total joy like 'e'.  His vocals, yea, they're a lot to take on and they seemingly got REAL corny post Thrak.  I'm glad Fripp dropped him for the 7/8-headed crim.  He would not be a good fit.

That being said his 80's Crim output is a perfect fit.  I'm not a big fan of studio ToaPP, but the live renditions of those songs are pretty tasty.  If you haven't listened to the Absent Lovers album I strongly suggest it.  That version of Sleepless slaps so goddamn hard.

If you guys want to talk dialed in Crim the flute part in "Interlude" on Radical action is actual from an improv on the 2000 tour.  So....they're reusing improv material from 20 years ago I guess?

Seems like Bill wont be playing the 2020 tour. At least thats what the lineup for future tour dates states although it might be just a template

Their webmaster replied in the DGM forums, it’s the 7 man lineup from 2019 that’ll perform in 2020. Bill sitting this one out, sadly.

I will say - live in Chicago really is at this point the definitive release of the 2014-present lineup. Just across the board killer performances - level 5 is my fave ever, Easy money has a great improv, the lizard suite is utterly destructive, schizoid man has some surprises, just all around great performance. Look forward to whatever releases come with the documentary or whatever live show releases they have planned.
