I'm finally getting around to Swans. At this point, I've only really listened to The Seer & To Be Kind.

I feel like it'll be a while before I have those digested enough to move on, they're so immense, but what would you experts suggest as the next album to tackle?

my father will guide me up a rope to the sky (2010)

that album up until to be kind is their newest material. immensely different from what came before the split up

when you're done with these three albums (which might take a while), i'd suggest try soundtracks for the blind, and after that their early material: filth, cop, greed, holy money, children of god.

most of the albums that i've not mentioned yet are, imo, kindof forgettable

I agree with Carl about My Father Guide me Up a Rope to the Sky, that will round up the newer stuff…

After that, I really prefer the Jarboe era: Burning World through Soundtracks for the Blind

I do love Children of God, but the earlier stuff doesn't do it for me as much

Seriously, that's the main mumbling thread dedicated to Swans ? Hilarious.

Anyways, they did a campaign to finance their new - and last - album with this line-up according to Gira. Anyone here pre-ordered anything ?

I went for the LP bundle, and already received a double CD package with some live versions of old and new songs they played during this tour.

Pretty cool stuff so far.

Bonus live vid that sadly cuts a lot around the 1h mark, but otherwise great performance.

Thanks for posting, I'll definitely check that out. I'm really stoked to see what is going to come after To Be Kind...

They were playing a couple new songs during the To Be Kind Tour, check on youtube for "Frankie M", "Apos / Cloud Of Unforming", "Cloud Of Forgetting" annd "Bring The Sun / Black Hole Man" (maybe found under Black Eyed Man sometimes).

On the liner notes of the CD, Gira roughly explained what he planned to do with these new songs.

I'm really curious as well, I consider To Be Kind to be one of the best - if not the best - album of the decade so far.

Spoiler

So far it sounds like a he said she said, but it seems like the Gira have a way to back up their way, unlike the accusation of being "technically raped".

Innocent until proven guilty, and it's gonna be sad either way. I can't stand people trying to stir shit or lie, but if it happens to be true, i'd be bummed.

The rape story got handled quickly, didn't really much about it after a couple of people went hard on Larkin Grimm lying / crazy habits.

Either way, their new album The Glowing Man will be out June 17th, available for peorder (cf video below).

It's safe to say I'm pumped and looking forward to hear more. I pledged during their crowfunding campaign at the end of 2015, and they sent a CD with demos & live stuff.

The title track was called "Black Hole Man" back then and I already digged it. Now that we have a studio snippet, it sounds really neat !

There's an even longer excerpt from the title track here: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b077t6tm

Starts ~ @ 18:54,the podcast is replayable for another 16 days.

And we're talking 4 min long excerpt, so that's pretty cool !

The album supposedly leaked. Some have it full, some have it minus the alst two tracks.

Since i'm a non what.cd pleb (invite anyone ? pretty please, I'll be forever grateful and more), I've been struggling to find a link that doesn't look too shady.

But the quest seems to be over now.

Goddamnit. They're going to Argentina and Colombia. Dante, you'd better attend this. Hopefully there'll be a date for Ecuador. Loving "The Glowing Man"!
