I swear, EVERY TIME they played this, it's like a completely different version of the best fucking riff ever written.

Let's celebrate JACOB JAM!!!!

Here's one just to get us started. It's sick. My personal favorite is the Highline Ballroom one tho, I listened to that bootleg a million times. Just couldn't find it on youtube right now.

These are the definitive versions in my opinion just because they contain the entire album that the jacob jam is from:

Corona is missing pieces, although the soundboard audio (and video) are welcome.  Vegoose and Zepp, to me, are the true Jacob Jams (I think the only two we have from that era).
Can't forget Sasquatch either

They also played Jacob Jam during the 2010 shows in Russia I think it replaced a Ximena song or two since she didn't make it.

True, Vegoose just returns back to Movement 2 (Which already went on for a bit too long IMO).

Best Jacob ever, imo:  North Sea Jazz Festival '08.  They were on fire.

Honorable mentions to the two excellent Aussie '08 boots containing it too, one was 2008/06/24, can't remember the other, but it was within days of that one.  One is really fast and agressive, the other slow and groovy.

Great thread idea, btw;  this is a rich area of Volta history that deserves detailed documentation.

No. It's the Holy Grail of TMV bootlegs, along with Northsix.

This thread reminds me, in response to something on here I while back, and while I was bored, I made a little comparison of the Jacob von Lennepkade/Viscera Eyes riffs & Jacob Jam riffs, if anyone's interested. Drums are just the essential beat, leaving out all the ghosting, etc. The 2011 jam is essentially identical to 2006 in regards to the riff, except Deantoni goes apeshit all the time.

God I love watching vids like that from when they had an 8 person band, just allowed for such a more expansive sound.....what I'm saying is I miss the percussion sax and Ikeys keys, just loved that touring version of the band. Sucks that they had to reduce size because it was too expensive to employ all those people. Amazing Jacob jam there

I feel like they played it a LITTLE too fast sometimes, but this tour was definitely my favorite version, just for the improvised vocals that changed every night, and Cedric being pure fire

there are some good shows from the Euro 2012 tour.  Just listened to the Cologne show yesterday and was very pleased.  Great audio, and I thought a solid performance by all parties.  Maybe a little heavy on the vocal manipulation, but I felt it worked.

Juan's bass on In Absentia is something of the gods.

As much as I understand and respect the desire to downsize, I loved the '06-'08 line-up.  I saw them in London and it was so funny to see just how much stuff they had on stage.  Just fucking mountains of equipment and performers.   At some point you gotta downsize, but those years of excess are some of my favorite.  It was Omar just taking anything and everything he wanted on tour and giving 0 fucks about the cost of it.

It seems silly, but when I see how small those BR setups are I get kind of saddened thinking 4-5 years ago he had a football field of equipment on stage, whether he used it all or not.  It reminds me of 90s King Crimson (Thrak Era) where they had two drummers, two bassist, and two guitars.   It was just this great symbolism of "Fuck it, I'll do what I want."  instead of compromising or making a minimalist sound.

I dig minimalism, it can be great, but there is something to be said about asinine grandiosity too.  You ever hear of a band called Centipede?  They made one album, but there were 100 people on the album, and it was a celebration of excess.  I love that, that mentality of adding more and more until the seams are bursting.  I am tired of people doing more with less, or even less with less.  I love it when a musical act just goes apeshit with equipment and performers.  Reminds of Fela Kuti, or P.Funk line-ups where they had 20 people on stage just because.

Yea I've been drinking....but fuck it, big bands rule.
