Land of Talk is a Canadian indie rock band from Montreal, Quebec. The band consists of singer and guitarist Elizabeth Powell, bassist Chris McCarron and drummer Eric Thibodeau, who replaced Bucky Wheaton in May of 2007.

The band released its debut EP, Applause Cheer Boo Hiss, April 4, 2006 on Dependent Music. The single "Summer Special" reached #1 on CBC Radio 3's The R3-30 the week of February 15, 2007.

I really dig them, check 'em out. Liz Powell has that Chan Marshall kinda thing going on. You may have heard their Wintersleep cover in the film Juno. and in Tracey Fragments she sings that Horses running cover tune.

'Cloak and Cipher' promises to be the trio's highest profile release to date, after 2008's 'Some are Lakes' and a string of EPs over the last four years. For the album, vocalist/songwriter Elizabeth Powell has settled down with Eoin O Laoghaire on bass and Andrew Barr on drums, but they've also managed to wrangle a few Canadians to help them with the cause. The Besnard Lakes' Jace Lasek takes on production duties, Patrick Watson handles piano on the song 'The Hate I Won't Commit' and Arcade Fire drummer Jeremy Gara lends some rhythmic help on 'Quarry Hymns.'

Ok ummm this album is serious business. Really FULL sound. The EP was awesome in an "indie" way and Some Are Lakes LP was a development on that. but this, this is new levels of awesomeness.
