-According to Omar, Arcos del Amor was composed around 2004, and the inspiration came from Ralph Jasso ranting about a break up

Seems like Arcos De Amor is the original track and La Tirania was constructed using the same drum track.

Good read from Johann, but he's so apologetic about his creative choices.

Granted.

But we have no clue when exactly Aranas was recorded... or how it was recorded. The timeframe could be any time between 2001 and 2006. The drums could have been recorded in one session or various sessions over the years. They could have been recorded together with the other instruments or as separate instrument tracks, following Omar's preferred recording method.

Your joke about Eriatarka drums kind of proves my point: Omar has a collection of JT drum recordings from Volta sessions (studio quality!), which he has used on solo material. If he wrote Arcos De Amor in 2004 and that particular drum track is an outtake from DITC or FTM sessions, he could have used it on Arcos in 2004 first, then again in Nov 2005 on La Tirania De La Tradicion.

There’s pre-orders up for the box set on eBay and Amazon with free shipping. Almost half the price from getting it from cloud hills. Won’t arrive till late September though.

Cool article. I like most of what Johann did with the songs producer and recording-wise, but it looks like he tried too hard to push himself into the spotlight with the rest of the band. I get that his work was important, but Idk, I get some "hey, I also was there!" vibes from Johann putting his photo in the boxset and his name at the end of the Roman Lips video with the others

Someone might say this was Omar's decision, but still...

you think johann had the final say on graphic design and video editing? it was totally omars decision and the whole thing happened because of johann, makes sense to me to feature him

the blurbs are nice, but i don't know how accurate they are. these releases were clumsy in a bunch of different ways, and credits are extremely sparse, so i don't think we should be too confident in these details.

was the entirety of Arañas was recorded by Jon Debaun, even the old stuff with Eva? Jon's earliest definite credit in ORL's discography seems to be AMD1. were Omar and Jon working together before then? did Eva continue to work with Omar after 2002? the circumstances are obscure.

Pretty sure AMD1 is all Blake Fleming.

sorry for the ambiguity - i was exclusively referring to Jon Debaun, and not at all to Jon Theodore.
