There's been a thread on them before. Some overenthusiastic moderator will close this and direct you there and we'll never speak of the band again.

yes, very crazy. it's like theatre mixed with metal. the first time i listened to them i got a song or 2 and just thought "this is weird" and stopped. this time i am getting all of the new album and i like it more. still weird, but good weird.

saw them open up for dredg. first impression: wtf? final impression: this is awesome.
yea, dredg is the reason i was checking them out. well actually, dredg fans. people on the dredg board listing them with their albums of the year. i think i heard of them from tool fans before they even toured with dredg. it just took me this long to really give it a try and get into it.

Why would it be locked? This thread is about the band in general...the other that Nardo posted is specifically about the new album. It seems like some of you put more energy into complaining about locked threads than we do actually closing them.I'm amazed this isn't locked. But yes, great band.
Anyway...I had a hard time getting into Of Natural History too...until one day I was listening to the track "Gunday's Child"...and the whole thing kind of clicked. Great song. The album is still weird as hell, but I like it a lot.

but i couldnt imagine getting into them with "Of Natural History" its so thick i wouldnt know where to start. it'd be much easier to start with "Grand Opening & Closing," just pretend their live album doesnt even exist, its terrible. but Of natural history is almost a concept album, everything is tied together, so its hard to get into them with that album. they're such an amazing band, they have that QOTSA dynamic where there is no real frontman. 12 string guitar, electric violin and homemade percussion, that just cant be beat. i kick myself because they come to town once a year, and everytime i'm too busy to drop everything and go see them live.
and d/ling the album online is wrong. they package their cds with quite a bit of reading that adds a lot of sense to their albums. thats Dada for you

i just want to whole-heartedly agree with this statement...i will buy a cd if i like it enough...if i don't do this, i end up buying something like antics...which was a waste of my money really...i've said it before and i'll say it againg, SGM is better then TMV.
