goddamn this is so good

this band sounds like a mix of TMV and TSOAF

I'd classify them as pop-prog.

Wow, this is one of my favorite albums of the year. It's like TSOAF and TMV stated before, but also has a lot of Beatles/REM moments, and Queen with all of the harmonizing backing vocals. The music gets all over the place, it's very Mr. Bungle like that (not saying they sound like Mr. Bungle, just how much they change the dynamics of a single song)... it goes from folk to pop to rock to orchestra to jazz to blues to waltz to punk to psychadelia to ragtime to railroad baritone chants to electronica to whatever else I forgot. The album is basically 2 albums in one, the first being 1-7 tracks, 38 minutes, the second being 8-15 trakcs, 38 minutes as well. And all the songs within each seperate part are connected. His vocal range has greatly improved from the EP as well, especially in The Bitter Suite. That's my take on it, I highly recommend.

Act 2 is clearly better than Act 1.

I agree except for his voice range. Don't get me wrong, he has a good voice, but he SCREAMS his higher notes.

They sound nothing like Panic at the Disco. I know he used to be in a punk band, but damn, the music has changed a lot from the utter shit of TREOS.

I listened to a couple TREOS songs, and I liked them a lot. Then I listened to Battesimo del Fuoco and my brain exploded. I bought Act I like the next day. I'm about halfway through Act II, and I'm not sure if I like it as much, but I probably just need to give it more time because it is a hell of a lot longer. The Dear Hunter dwarfs TREOS in every way.

the ONLY way i can see the PATD comment relate is that both interwave traditional rock motifs with symphonic/orchestral accompaniment, and also how Casey sometimes talk-sings like the panic guy. but thats all.

i like it but i dont see how its much of a departure from TREOS. like its good, but it doesnt sound like a complete sound-overhaul like Cedric and Omar did (going with the previous Volta comparisons)

ive heard some songs but not the full thing before now. i'll go buy it tomorrow

I hate it when people compare bands albums to one another...

Maybe this is more appropriate though because its Act 1 and Act 2... but with bands like the mars volta, or TSOAF, or any band, their records wont sound the same.

anyway good cd, i havent listened to it in a while, because i always feel like a fag listening to it (sounds sooo much like PATD, the vocals sound just like it)

I can't really say anything to you people who say they sound like Panic! other than that you're wrong. It's not even like I don't hear the comparison, you're just wrong. I never say that about stuff. I mean I guess I could get the whole wind ensemble instrumental part, but the similarities really stop there. Casey Crescenzo's voice sounds more like the guy from Phantom Planet than the guy from Panic! at the Dicso.
