Yeah I wasn't into with teeth whenever I first heard it but it grew on me over the years. I do like octa though but usually skip with twilight as my guide

Octahedron is sick. It’s the only album that grew on me long after they broke up and now it’s one of my favorites. Maybe growing older is a part of it? Chiller TMV but still has it’s strokes of genius.

Nah man, it's poor. Cotopaxi is about the only good thing that came from that era.

I love with teeth but it is pretty derivative of what came before it.

I agree. One thing I do like though, is that is paved the way for the subsequent set of albums - Year Zero/Ghosts/The Slip - Which, along with their associated remixes and tours is my favourite era of NIN.

There’s this song on HM that always makes me laugh and cringe and that song is Everything. I was like whoooaaaaa turn volume down.

IKR? It's almost like he's parodying himself. D'you think NIN ever played that live?

By the way, the 40 minute discussion with Trent track at the end of the deluxe edition of that album where he shares several demos from the HM sessions; some of those demos are fucking awesome and should have been fleshed out and put on the album. It would have brought it up a grade higher.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat. Can you link?

Here you go man. I heard it on apple music when I found out this was tacked on the end of the deluxe version... first demo he plays is at 11:00, second demo at 19:35, third demo at 23:50, All Time Low demo at 31:00.

I hope Trent never plays Everything live lol

With teeth is my least favorite album, but right where it belongs is beautiful. Octavia is fine imo. Hesitation marks has a few good songs, several shit ones. The new trilogy is amazing

I always had "a few" as basically another way of saying 3, 4, or 5, whereas "several" means 6-10.

6-9, surely. Or 6-11, 12 being a dozen. Actually that should rule 6 out too, being half a dozen. 13 is a baker's. 14 and up is a lot.

Show was great, but lots of mosh pit hits, little space for nuance.

I was happier with the previous time I saw them, which was at an inside venue, with lots of attention to lights and detail and an ambient part in the middle.

The three songs he did from bad witch were great though, as was I'm afraid of Americans. He also did a joy division cover but that wasn't so strong

NTAE vinyl just arrived. Anyone else have a hype sticker with "preffered" written on it, clearly incorrectly?

Sigh. They never play any Ghosts or The Slip any more, and I didn't see a show on the LITS tour. Look how fucking great that setlist is. Honestly, one of my biggest regrets is never seeing them live during that era.

Ghosts live always felt like a unique experience the way they presented the songs with visuals. I saw them I forget when. Maybe 2009 or 2010 when they had several interspersed. They need to put those back in because they are awesome ways to settle into calm vibes between intense sets. Those were actually the most memorable songs when I saw him live, maybe because they weren’t his hits but he did them anyway.

Fuck yeah I would have loved to see that. He also seems to do this thing where he alters sets for his UK shows. For some reason we always get more early career stuff than his setlists in the states. I don't have much issue with that, but when you've seen Terrible Lie more times than all the songs from The Slip and Ghosts put together it's a bit grating.

True. Don’t want to hear that one, closer, or hurt anymore. He needs to go for lots of as good or better non hits. If they did I’m not from this world or play the Goddamned part live with visuals that would be insane.

The song I heard from the new album that was supposed to be Bowie-esque (God Break Down the Door) was severely underwhelming. Is the rest of the album like that?

The Bowie one is Over And Out, the final track. Apparently he was imitating Bowie's voice while they were jamming and they thought it was good so he wrote a song in that style. GBDTD is a bit like that, but it's clear he's purposefully changing his vocal style in Over And Out.

The whole album is quite an interesting piece. It starts out as fairly standard NIN loud/quiet guitars and decays into more experimental songs. GBDTD is actually my least liked song on that album, it's right in the middle and is a bit superfluous. My top pick is Ahead Of Ourselves, it's got this wicked drum pattern and chainsaw guitar stabs. It's well worth it if you're into NIN, there's a lot of The Downward Spiral and Broken in Bad Witch, with some queasy jazz stylings thrown in. It's nowhere near the best NIN, but it's interesting, and different to what he's done before.

There's definitely a really solid 10 track album in those 3 EPs.
