John Mclaughlin ruins music... ever heard the mediterranean concerto? he BLEW IT. it could have been played so much more beautifully, but he sucks.
Anyone ever notice in the trio that he would take solos that were twice as long as paco's or al's?
I heard a solo album... complete crap. now he's gone all pansy cause he's too old to wank.

He's alright.
Although I'd prefer mahavishnu without the guitar and more Goodman + violin. But that's just personal preference. I'm not fond of electric guitars.

Your comment about him taking solos which are twice as long is complete bullshit. If you listen to friday nigth in san fran he takes shorter solos than the others on many an occassion and in shakti his solos are no where near as long as zakir hussains 10-20 minute tabla solos! Also one of his most praised aspects with miles was his restraint.

we dislike wanking because like eric clapton put it "its like pyrotechnic playing" also because we feel it doesnt have as much feeling as say a really good fast run thats not as fast as a steve vai run. also we like honest to God improvising of the 60s style more a la omar. steve vai is great but he always relies on the same wankin, i bet most guitarists here that like omar also like hendrix and page and clapton bcause of their inventiveness u know while wankers cant really do that every night. oh yeah by the way i dont consider omar a wanker
