Agreed.  And Noct, but then again it's the latest album and we all know that the newest TMV album is usually the one that gets hated on the most.

How can you not be immediately blown away by Tetra, Baphomets, Viscera, and Mecca?? (Not to disparage the other songs)

This. Vicarious is an incredible opener, too. First listen, I was already in love by, "Leap year is late".

I find a lot of emotions on Amp, in Vicarious Atonement or Viscera Eyes or Day Of The Baphomets.

I appreciate Amputechture much more now for the musical talent on display, especially considering what came after it.

Also, it was the album that I always used to get new people into TMV, my friends couldn't listen to DITC or FTM, saying it was just a bunch of noise, but with Amp they were like "oh, this is quite nice".

jealous... my friends always referred to it as the "album with all those underpants gnomes vocals"

Still better than "turn off that annoying woman", the usual response to DITC ;)

But yeah, Amp had some shorter songs and it felt right to just pick single songs to play for friends since it wasn't a concept album.

I never played Tetra for any of them, the result would have been like

LOL yeah. It's like that review which said that TMV tried to fit the whole dude i.e. "God" into the whole song.

Viscera Eyes has been kind of disappointing to me ever since I learned that Omar didn't write the main riff in the second half. Still love that song though.

^^^ Mataxia, was it Frusciante's guitar work!? I love that song much more now...

Also, Amp just doesn't know when to cut the cord, the songs just drag on, and on, until you get sick of them, unless it's Mecca and Viscera, those two are the only lengthy songs that I don't get bored through.

Also, Bedlam is hated for it's obnoxious use of Melodyne and Chipmunk Harmonies, I don't care if that's his actual voice or not, it's fucking annoying.

I never beat the original Legend of Zelda, the Dark Nuts are just OPAF in that game

Nah, I'd be fine with that.  Omar flat out copied it from some old salsa song (he put together a salsa playlist and that song was on it).  I don't really care that much but it used to be one of my favorite parts of the album and now I'm not quite as impressed with it.

It is an amazingly cool riff, any chance you could find the song it's from?

The part in question starts at 2:35.  The horns are even the same.

Cheers. Haha, oh wow. All he did was change the last three notes of the riff the slightly so that it's not that classic super-latin sounding dominant, less salsa and more rock.
Oh well, it's slightly disappointing, but it doesn't diminish my enjoyment of the track.

Great find mataxia! Viscera sounded too perfect. This does not diminish it he quality of the track for. Omar has stated he was heavily influenced by the salsa scene. He used a recognized a great riff and utilized it to its max potential. At least he did not sample it like 90% of hip hop (or pop for that matter)...,

The band sounds bored. Cedric has a lot of good moments though.

To be fair, a lot of the Latin influenced music is based off traditional salsa rhythms with tonal or key changes, Ex. Drunkship, Cicatriz, The melody of the verses of Dyslexicon's from another song that escapes me, The opening of Take the veil was used in something else before, that also escapes me, the opening of Asilos Magdalena is a fingerpicking exercise Omar's dad learned,
