Damn, forgot to put Poincare on my list. But you would have to include Un Buitre as well since they are the same song.

On one hand, I'd really like to hear Please Heat This Eventually (with Damo Suzuki) on this, but on the other hand I know a twenty-minute thing might not be the best item to put on a best-of collection. I'd be in favor of a "radio edit" (heh) of parts one and two here.

Anything that Omar did under the name, "Startled Calf."

We know that it was a solo project, in reality.

not really diggin this idea for a greatest hits. But oh well they'll make more money and possibly new fans if this gets put out in stores and what not. but still greatest hits are so fuckin lame most of the time. you miss so much by just picking up the greatest hits of omar. if i was to compile the greatest hits of omar it would be at least four discs long.

I would never have though Omar would approve something like this until I heard him say he didn't care about labels doing radio edits of his songs... I though he was more of an album guy

They used to speak out against singles and radio edits etc, but being in the music industry as long as they have I think they just accept it and don't really care anymore. Because it's just part of being on a label.

I am of the understanding that if you are really into The Mars Volta and Omar, you will want the full album and nothing less. If this helps expose the genius that is Omar Rodriguez Lopez to a greater audience however, I am 100% for it!

These are a must
:

Dyna Sark Arches
The Palpitations Form a Limit
Rapid Fire Tollbooth
Boiling Death Request a Body to Rest Its Head On
Melting Chariots
Jacob van Lennepkade II
Coma Pony
El Monte T'aï
Calibration
Las Lagrimas de Arakuine
Hands Tied to the Roots of a Hemorrhage
Mood Swings
A Pinching Invention
The Power of Myth
Population Council's Wet Dream
Private Fortunes
Old Money
A Device Imagined to Turn Screaming Babies Inside Out At the Push of a Button
Half Kleptos
Cryptomnesia
Mundo de Ciegos
Asco Que Conmueve los Puntos Erógenos
Locomocion Capilar
Un Buitre Amable Me Pico
Miércoles

I hope this helps!

Spared from the insult list

Dyna Sark Arches
Here The Tame Go By
Mood Swings
Of Ankles to Stone
Sepulcros De Miel part 5

While it would be nice for everyone just to pick his/her favorite songs and call that a greatest hits, that is in many ways not the purpose of a greatest hits. As I see it, greatest hits are namely to commemorate hits or to introduce budding fans to a general outline of an artists' catalog. It would be hard to say that Omar has hits really, but he definitely has songs could fit the part. Also, something about the density and length of his discography lead me to think that the songs should follow a chronological progression. With all of that in mind, this is my suggestion for a track listing:

1. Dyna Sark Arches
2. Deus Ex Machina
3. The Palpatations Form A Limit

4. Rapid Fire Tollbooth
5. Se Dice Bisonte, No Bufalo
6. Boiling Death Request For Body To Rest Its Head On
7. La Tirania De La Tradicion

8. Coma Pony

9. El Monte T'aï
10. Calibration

11. Pawn Shop Blues

12. Hands Tied To The Root Of A Hemorrhage
13. Sex, Consolation For Misery

14. A Device Imagined To Turn
15. Screaming Babies Inside Out
16. At The Push Of A Button
17. Panta Section

18. The Power Of Myth
19. How To Bill The Bilderberg Group
20. Private Fortunes
21. Old Money

22. Noir
23. Paper Cunts
24. Elderly Pair Beaten With Hammer
25. Warren Oates

26. Ojo Al Cristo De Plata
27. Asco Que Conmueve Los Puntos Erógenos

28. Locomocion Capilar
29. Las Flores Con Limón

30. Miercoles

31. 0=2
32. ZIM

There is probably no room for both three-song groups for Megaritual and Cryptomnesia respectively (A Device Imagined To Turn, Screaming Babies Inside Out, At The Push Of A Button) and (Paper Cunts, Eldery Pair Beaten With Hammer, Warren Oates), so one should be cut. Also, either Jakob Van Lennepkade or Jakob Van Lennepkade II probably should make the list.

If you look, everbody pretty much has chosen the same stuff. We are not just picking our favorite songs...we are picking songs the represent the Omar catalog to its enitirity and that is accessible...and well....GOOD SONGS which are usually our favorite.

I agree with pretty much everybody and all their (similar, but well selected) choices.

But please end it on Coma Pony, can't think of a better last song....can you?
