Insanely, I mean, INSANELY tight show. Spot on performances and they were playing straight up intensely. Could have been longer, Luciforms sticks out right now as my ears ring.

I need to write a review of this for my music final, but as of right now those are my thoughts.

I love this band, thank you.

amazing show.
dear roseland,
fire your sound guy.

besides the set being on the short side and whoever on the soundboard not having any idea what he was doing, completely worth everything.
no copernicus, iamisandisnt is just tripping balls.

im pretty sure there was some x in my and my friends drinks. pretty sure. that, or the show was just that good

^I agree with you that the sound guy sucked, Cedric fucked up a lyric it was pretty funny, Thomas was fantastic also. Before the show I actually got to meet most of them and take pictures with them, if you want I'll post them when I get them, for the most part an amazing show, I just wish pricks didn't come around like it's a Lamb of God show, but justice comes to those who deserve it because I don't know if anyone saw that dude near the from that was probably on crack moshing to even the slowest parts, he got fully dropped by the security guards and that's when Cedric made a comment about being careful, I had a good time though, the Mars Volta have done it again for me this year.

good times. I was basically dead center...maybe 20 or so rows back. crowd was pretty good I guess. most smoke I've ever seen at a show ever. cedric said something along the lines of "pheww" when they came out. good setlist...could have seen a little more frances the mute representation but its all good. the drunkship bass solo was solid, but I wasnt feeling pridgen that much on that song.. that will forever be a theodore song. all of the new songs were tight as hell, especially luciforms. waited outside afterwords. I only saw juan walk away with some friends, but he had his hood up and didnt look like he wanted to talk so I didnt bother him. cant wait for philly yo.

twelfth show

tight as hell.
maybe the tightest most focused i have ever seen them play.
it was all awesome.
luciforms is gangster, they made the ditc material sound real fresh(realize that i am someone who hasnt been listening to all the bootlegs etc, which might explain why it seemed so), the part right before widow was great, and the widow was great too. no cp0mplaints. i was right by the soundboard.

oh and the backdrops had me in a gaze at some points!

got a poster, a raiders button and a setlist.

=)

4th time seeing them, 2nd best show I've seen.

I brought about 8 volta newbies, people who ranged from never seeing them live and never even hearing the records.
Went out out to dinner after, people fucking LOVED it. They were super tight last night, cedric was on jumping around like a fiend, lulz about the tea runner. What songs did Omar sing on? I remember halo and something else but i forget...

anyway great show, hope to see em again soon.

To echo everyone else, this was a brilliant performance in every way. To differ from a few commenters, the sound was great. It's all dependent on where you stand. I was in the balcony, dead center (and also walked to the left side to hit the bathroom and watched a bit from there), and you heard everyone (yes, even Ikey). Based on past show reviews where people commented on Cedric's vox being buried, I was happy that his voice was bellowing throughout the venue last night and he was pitch-perfect. The band was definitely into this show based on stage performance as well.

My only beef was the length of the show. 90 minute sets are standard when you have opening acts (not to mention the promoter for the show told me that they were slated to play from 8:30-10:30 and they ended at 10:05pm, which led him and others working the show to question whether something was wrong). The special thing about these guys is they do without openers and are known for longer sets than most bands. I'm not expecting a 2.5hr-3hr set, but at least over 90 minutes. That was the only critique, but I will say that those 90 minutes were stellar.

Set List:
1. Son Et Lumiere
2. Intertiatic E.S.P
3. Goliath
4. Cotopaxi
5. Roulette Dares
6. Viscera Eyes
7. Halo Of Nembutals
8. Eunuch Provocateur
9. Ilyena
10. Teflon
11. Drunkship Of Lanterns
12. Luciforms
13. The Widow
14. Wax Simulacra

Excellent show. Was about 3 rows from the front to the right of Ikey. I think that this show was even better then last year at Starland. The stripped down sound really works for them, you can hear everyone a lot clearer. Crowd was okay for the most part, lots of moshing and crowd surfing to the left of where I was. They didn't jam any songs at all besides completely changing Roulette Dares and heavy as fuck jam in the middle of Drunkship. The bass solo by Juan right before the Widow was awesome, really cool that they let him have his moment to shine. Only minor complaint is the show was so short. The songs went by incredibly fast. Can't wait for tomorrow in Philly.
